GVP Tekmagic 060 4000
« on: February 03, 2004, 08:39:05 PM »
I know NOTHING of this card!
I am negotating a trade that will include this 68060 card.

I can find NO info on big book of amiga hardware.

Does this card use real SIMS or GVP ones?
Is SCSI built in, or optional?

What does it look like?

Is it a 'good' card?

Thanks!

I'm guessing its the good ol' proprietary GVP SIMMS
see here

@MaDDuck:

According to this page, the TekMagic is an A2000 accelerator while the A4000 accelerator is called T-Rex.

I have been using a TekMagic 060 2000 for a few years now. It's a nice card, uses "regular" 72 pin SIMMS. I do remember that it took me a few tries to sort out how the SIMMs and jumper pins worked with each other - I finally got it set up with one 32 MB and one 16 MB SIMM. It also has internal (standard 50 pin ribbon cable) and external (HD50 pin) SCSI.

The amiga.resource.cx link, posted by patrik elsewhere in this thread, has all of this and more information about these boards.

Seems like the last few products turned out by GVP-M moved away from their special simms. The A2000 060 board I use has both 64pin & standard 72pin simm slots.

Not room for that on an A4000 card. Make sure you get an accurate pin count on those slots, but it seems like you might be able to use standard simms.

Good Luck!
Best,

Bob Kennedy

Hi,
You'll need the latest 040 & 060 libraries from cyberstorm.

The GVP card is excellent.

RAM access speeds are supposedly better than the CyberStorm (mk.2 i think...have to dig the review out), and the SCSI controller is DMA ; reliable and fast.

Info can be found here:

http://www.amiga-hardware.com/gvp4060.html

Installation software here:

http://www.amiga-hardware.com/drivers/drivers/A4000_Accelerators/gvp4060.dms

It will be a very good purchase.

thanks man!

So it's a good card then.

It's just that the Blizzard 1240 on my A1200 kinda spoiled me, but if I'm getting a better quality (and faster card) it can only be good!

Is the 68060 really THAT much faster than a 68040 anyway

Hi,
Yes 060 is alot faster and runs cooler. The GVP libs are old and following Mike @ AmigaU's advice.
I installed the cyberstorm ones "newer" on my Tek 2060 card and noticed a real difference.

Rock On

OK!!!
I'll give it a go then, and tell the guy that the trade is a GO!

Thanks man, VERY helpful

BTW, I'm trading a Blizzard 68040 @33, SCSI adapter, 4640 and some $$$$ for it.
Now I'm REALLY hyped to get it.
