The Island

This film fails miserably because it tries to combine ideas from many established science-fiction films in the hope of instantly being a winner. The 'Black Wasp' scene is a poor emulation of the Star Wars snow-speeder scenes. The gestational sacs are ripped from Matrix. The turning fan is ripped from Highlander. The film is nothing new...if 100 people watched Minority Report, the Matrix, Fortress and Gattaca...then all farted into a huge jar, you would get the movie The Island, bottled. McGregor was ordinary, Bean was stereotypical to the point where he was surplus to requirements and Johansen was like a mannequin with a broom-handle up its bum. The sound was dire, effects were nothing special and all I wanted was for the movie to end. Give it a miss if you haven't already.
