FFS mountlist for compactflash.device?
« on: July 22, 2006, 03:36:14 AM »
Recently I bought a PCMCIA Compact Flash adapter from AmigaKit.  It comes with everything needed to read a FAT-formatted CF card -- fat95 filesystem (I believe that CrossDOSFileSystem works just as well, if not better) and compactflash.device.

While it works well for FAT-formatted CF, I need it to read an FFS-formatted CF card, but have been unable to devise a mountlist for this.  The CF card has been used in my Amiga 4000 using an IDE-to-CF adapter, and I would like to copy data from it to my 1200.  In the future, I was planning to use this setup to copy the 512MB CF in the 1200 to a replacement 4GB CF.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Not certain on this, but you might be able to use HDToolbox to save the RDB as a mountlist. With some minor tweaking, you might be up and running.

I tried it while I was playing around, and it didn't work.  I have the mountlist still so I'll continue trying to tweak it.  I'm concerned that the compactflash.device may not like some of the parameters of the mountlist, like Surfaces.

Since the compactflash.device came with the AmigaKit kit, I'll head over to AmiNet tonight and try to find the original package and look into the docs.

Did you ever find a solution? I'm trying to do the same thing here without success.

Hmmm...This is of great interest to me too, as I've used the Compact Flash card in the PCMCIA slot of my 5 year old daughters A1200 Desktop to get games into it for many months. But I have always left it PC formatted and used 'fat95' in the Amiga.

For a moment I thought I could simply click icon for the CF and select format from the menu at the top of the screen. But I thought wrong of course as FFS is hatched out and it can only be formatted back to FAT. Doh!

Looks like we need to get a dos driver with L:FastFileSystem and to get all the other numbers right. We may need a new dos driver for CF cards of each capacity as well.

Will continue to investigate.......

Here is the mountlist for the Amiga formatted 100MB Zip disk with my Zip drive being an internal IDE one. Prehaps we can fiddle with the numbers and get this to work the CF card  :-)

FileSystem    = L:FastFileSystem
Flags        = 0
Surfaces    = 1
SectorsPerTrack    = 68
SectorSize      = 512
Reserved    = 2
Interleave    = 0
Buffers        = 136
BufMemType    = 1
MaxTransfer    = 0x001FE000
Mask        = 0xFFFFFFFE
BootPri        = -127
StackSize    = 1024
Priority    = 10
DosType        = 0x444F5303
LowCyl        = 2
HighCyl         = 2890
Mount        = 1
Activate    = 1
GlobVec        = -1

Oh the 'Zip.info' file has:-

Default tool.... C:Mount

Tool types.... ACTIVATE=1, STARTUP=1, DEVICE=scsi.device and UNIT=3

@ LoadWB

Well I've given up on trying to solve this for you using a Compact Flash card in the PCMCIA slot of an A1200 Desktop
 :boohoo:

Many thanks for starting the thread though as I couldn't think of what to have as a 4th IDE device in my A4000.

But now I know exactly where one of these will be going  :-D  :-D  :-D

(Erm..... No it isn't a pointing mouse :lol: )

:cheers:
