Title: Announcing the winners of the Festive Amiga Games Making Competition
Post by: Cammy on February 01, 2010, 07:33:34 AM
Hi everyone!

Well, you've all had a month now to download and try out the entries for the first Festive Amiga Games Making Competition and give them your five-star rating, and now it's time for us to announce the winners. Thank you to everyone who participated by entering the competition and those who played the games and rated them. We still plan on helping all entrants to finish their games and add the finishing touches to them so that they can be released on CD as well as free downloads from our website and Aminet.

Now, without further ado, I present to you the winners of the first Festive Amiga Games Making Competition:

First Prize: X-Mas Disaster 2999 - GUS Entertainment (Jordi Palome, Juan A. Gomez and Carlos Peris)
(Receiving a signed Award Certificate, USB Rocket Launcher, RGB-S-Video Adapter, two Control Pads, PCMCIA 5-in-1 Card Reader, a box of 25 Floppy Disks, Oscar & Diggers for CD32 and the Festive Games CD)

Second Prize: X-Mas Syman - Ultimate Amiga (Hungry Horace and Mihcael)
(Receiving a signed Award Certificate, Control Pad, a box of 25 Floppy Disks, Oscar & Diggers for CD32 and the Festive Games CD)

Third Prize: Cornelius Saves Christmas - Atropos Studios (Alkis Polyrakis)
(Receiving a signed Award Certificate, one box of 25 Floppy Disks and the Festive Games CD)

Runners-up will all receive a signed Award Certificate for participating, as well as a copy of the Festive Games CD, once it's finished.

I'd like to personally congratulate everyone who participated and helped make this such a successful Amiga event, and hope you will all join in on future projects and contests. With your help, we will keep the Amiga spirit alive for years to come!

Due to the positive response to our first competition, Underground Arcade will now begin running quarterly Amiga Games Making Competitions, with details on our next competition "Retro Remix" coming very shortly!

Congrats!
But that was only the seed.
2010 competition should give developers more time.
And you'll have more time to gather even more prizes, being one of them (for the 1st place) the opportunity to comercially launch a special version of the game on a fancy box, with manual and even a poster for collectible purposes.

Game can be downloaded, but special version is sold!

But the winner cannot be chosen just by voting. A jury should be formed that will judge, Gfx, Music, Playability,...
- A nice game, that needs constant disk swapping should lose points on playability!

Very good points, we fully intend on evolving this contest into something more professional than the last-minute Christmas one. Here's a photo of the competition prizes under the Amiga Christmas Tree

If the contestants would like to private message or email me with their postal addresses, we'll send these prizes out as soon as we can!

Yep, several. But a pretty one that likes computers is very rare. A pretty one that likes Amiga computers and dress like Street Fighter Cammy it's probably Unique.

Hi all!

I am one of the coders of X-Mas Disaster 2999 / GUS Entertainment, the winner fast-game of this contest.

We are very pleased to be the winners, but we want to congratulate a lot to Underground Arcade and Cammy for all your work and dedication (and prizes!) in this contest. They are the most important people that made it possible.

Thank you too to all participants for your games and people that played and voted them in this contest.

See you in next contest!!! :)

Probably has a lot to due with a lack of beautiful women who also love the Amiga, such as Cammy. :)

I assume that is supposed to be some sort of mockery ? Good job, it's important to discourage people who are willing to shell out prizes from thier own pockets in an attempt to create some fun for the community.

*sigh*

You assume wrongly.

Surprisingly, for someone that joined in 2005, you obviously haven't been on the site long enough to get the joke, even though there's an entire social group based on it here (http://www.amiga.org/forums/group.php?groupid=7)...

It's absolutely nothing to do with mocking the competition - which I might add was a superb idea, or discouraging people from taking part in it. It was simply in-joke at the expense of a fellow long-time member who I'm sure would have understood the reference.

Still, seeing as it offended you so deeply, I've removed it.

Is that real? Amazing.
I'm pretty sure that the next one, with more time available (how about 6 or 8 months), and with prizes like:
* Jon Hare's 1200
* Dinner with Cammy :)

We'll start to get even more nice games to the Amiga. In some years, ppl would be really pushing machines to their real limit. Like what happens today on the mature MSX competition.

Congrats to all the community and specially to Cammy for making it possible.

The latter could be a seriously expensive prize if the winner is from a long way outside Oz :-)

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for the great response! We would gladly accept any donated prizes for the next competition, developers and non-developers alike. :) It would really help encourage more involvement in the next competition, I hope as well as boost people's spirits so they will be more motivated to work on games.

If anyone has a serious offer about prizes for the competition, please send me a private message. Thanks! :)

Wow Cammy! Pretty girls who love Amiga's are just what this site needs. Would any others please come forward ;)

@ Karlos

Whatever happened to your work colleague Mel_Zoom who created quite a stir with her new user introduction thread? I think it had over 5000 views in a couple of days  :)

Thanks A4000 Mad, but I'm not too sure everyone is happy about me being here. Some guys have come to treat Amiga forums as their exclusive "boy's club" and don't seem to like it when women post here and on the other Amiga forums.

Also, I wanted to ask all you guys who have costumes something. I've been working on a new game for AGA Amigas called Halloween Nightmare. It's based in modern times on Halloween night, and lots of characters you meet are people in costumes. Would any of you like to guest-star in the game, in a pixellated-animated form? Your image would be drawn in anime style but based on how you look in your costume. Perhaps you could be a character who answers the door and gives out candy, or someone you meet in the park who gives you a clue. A few other Amiga users have already volunteered to be in the game too.

So, what do you guys think?

Maybe if Cammy has a laptop or netbook with a camera the dinner date with her could be virtual using Skype's video calling, or something similar?  Her boyfriend would probably prefer the date to be virtual instead of in person too!

As for anyone resenting, or not liking women to post on any Amiga forum sites, just point them out Cammy and the rest of us who like you will take care of them for you.    I think most people here really appreciate you and would love to have a dozen more Amiga users just like you here.

I think they feel threatened by your ability to give them a roundhouse to the left temple.

Me I'd luv to have my mug on an amiga game. And you wouldn't have to change much to have it fit in with the halloween nigntmare theme.!

@ Cammy,
I am really glad to see some one here has sparked something like this competition! Great going! I hope this programming idea grows. I may even dust off my programming "skills" (such as they are) and jump in down the road.

ps - There are some of us (old boys) who really think women are our equal.
