Payback Intent/AmigaDE Status Report
« on: February 21, 2002, 09:56:07 PM »
The latest status report for Payback has been released with screenshots to view here.  Another map has been added as well as another update, the maps can be downloaded here.

I love the modern age world of this middle age crises America... all these SUVs driving around like there\\\'s gas to spare and then some.

There's an updated map available, not an update for the game.

Cool.  So does this mean that soon Amiga can show off the AmigaDE running something a bit more interesting then what we've so-far been shown running on it?  I think seeing payback running on it may interest a few people who so far have been very un-impressed.  Please note, this is only my opinion - no need to flame me for voicing it, is there? :-)
I sometimes wish I hadn\\\'t traded my A1200 for an A4000/040...

Does anyone know the author?

The southern hemishperes largest IT expo, COMDEX in Sydney Australia is on in a weeks time, the Australian user groups have come together to host an amiga stand there. We (dont tell anyone) have a sharp zaurus! that we are demostrating the DE on and an x86 DE as well(i think). A Payback demo would just blow the crowd away... escpecially running on both machines from the same code base!

i surprised someone from hyperion hasnt ported Quake (the first one) to the DE. Someone (Ben) is working on Quake 2 for AmigaOS. He should do a DE version with PDA's in mind. That is if Quake 2 would run on a PDA. Quake should though!

Maybe even Doom! If this stuff is already running, useing Warp3D API, its very portable to the DE now. Someone should do this so we have cool stuff to show people!

Plus the Open Source community really likes the zaurus. If they were to see cool stuff like this, more DE would be sold. Im sure. They might even think of getting it for their desktops :)

Well Quake IS ported to DE.  Richar Collier (and someone at Tao?) has done a port. You can find screenshots at
http://nicomen.com/de/quake.png">http://nicomen.com/de/quake.png and http://nicomen.com/de/quake2.png">http://nicomen.com/de/quake2.png.

Beware that these are a little hack to the already ported version to make them have the correct resolution. And yes I know some of the graphics are too big, wrongly  displayed etc.

Wow! I'd by the Windows DE player if it meant I can play this! This could really push DE. As revolutionary as the Boing ball demo perhaps?

Run it on your PC - then run it on your PDA whilst commuting to college....... very nice. :-)

its up to the individual programs. However I did read that payback was going to be able to work with different resolutions, though i doubt full screen to start with, maybe a little later...

So, if one were to demo these on a zaurus. How would one, go about obtaining this? Guess you would have to speak to  tao?

Not to mention selling them.

Hey, out of curiosity. Are all DE games under one category as in.

Is there or is there not a distinction between PC and PDA games?

When payback is developed and ready for release, will it be sold on the AmigaDE page?

If you are developing a program for the DE, does it have to be sold on the DE page?

No. You don't have to sell through the DE shop. However, if you want it to work with the player/get it in the .ami format, you do... Amiga is the only one who can make .ami files. Amiga has implied they intend to release a .ami compiler in the future, just not yet.
