What bugs me...
« on: April 09, 2010, 12:45:09 PM »
Hi, put in what bugs you, some niggling thing that keeps cropping up, let's hear it.

What bugs me is adventure games and roleplaying games that keep changing the interface.

What bugs me is any change of interface that isn't to accommodate more functions.

What Amiga game does that?

I have certainly never written any RPG that does that.
Wanna try a wonderfull strategy game with lots of handdrawn anims,
Magic Spells and Monsters, Incredible playability and lastability,
English speech, etc. Total Chaos AGA

er Monkey Island series post Amiga. The various D&D games have wildly different interfaces.

If you are talking about the differens between versions, that is just making them better and more playable.

Look at leisure suite larry, would it be fun to have the text interfance used there in all adventure games up to date?

I must admit that I hate icons. Really hate the ones that look nowhere close to what they're supposed to represent. In later years, if you steady your pointer on one, a text box will pop up letting you know what it does - but rare is the Amiga game that does that.

I hate it when they can't get the balance right on an otherwise great game...  So you start playing it and it is really enjoyable but the progression goes like this...

...Too easy
..Too easy.
.Too easy.

Friggin IMPOSSIBLE.  And very little difference in between..
I have had more than one game ruined for me because of this issue..

Or companies that continuously put out games with show-stopping bugs... (UbiSoft I am looking at you!)  Ubisoft is also notorious for heavily scripted games and then have "trigger" issues that end up hanging you at various parts of the game..   INFURIATING

And now they have a copy protection scheme that requires you to have a PERSISTENT live internet connection to play their latest SINGLE PLAYER GAME..

UbiSoft will never get another dime of my money due to these repeated offenses..
Hmmm.  Looks like UBISOFT bugs me...
