I did check out many sites and pictures off the WWW, and I looked like pin 1 of the X-Surf card was the pin closest to the back of the card. This proved to be wrong!!!

I tried it that way and I noticed that my HDD did not spin up right away. I quickly shut off the power bar and reversed the connection on the X-SurfII card and all was well.

So, for all those that are interested:

Pin 1 of Clockport 0 is twards the center of the XSurfII card (rivet side).

The Subway USB card clearly marks the pin 1 location by way of an arrow on the circuit board!

The Subway card is up and running just fine!!!

Just one question. Will there be any more USB Subway device classes available for the ever expanding world of USB???

@amiwalker

to go only with my "thought" should be the one near the little capacitor (it seems a power filter).

and to know Jens skill, would be the same layout of the IDE ports.

ohhhh .  . obviously ask to Jens before ;.)

If you connect the ribbon cable up the wrong way, then the power supply is (depending on the design of the board) basicly shorted out and the power to the entire system is dragged down so the HDD's will not spin up!

Hope that answers your question and confusion.

Ah, it seem you're talking about the IDE ports... I connected Melody 1200 to a clockport the wrong way.. and that wasn't good...

I am not talking about the IDE ports on the XSurfII directly.

The power that supplies the XSurf comes from the Amiga motherboard. When you short out any power line connected to the system (on the XSurf or any other device), you affect the whole system. This would also include the HDD connected to the motherboard as well.
