Greetings,

I realized there were very little support for wide range of video formats
capable of playing on Classic Amigas. If not seldomly supported. Take
for example my Mobile movie I happen to transfer from it to PC to
Amiga. Its in 3gp format. I have not tested any software yet, and I
plan to run CyberAVI,QT, Frogger and Riva. I do have doubts that it
may never work, though. :-(

Here are all the standard formats I think the Amiga is/is not capable of playback:
(This is only what I've encountered so you may post any additional info
if you may, thanks :-) )
MPEG-1  On aga machines, not very nice. No colors.
MPEG-2          possible but requires faaast CPU&Graphics Card
 MPEG-3(audio) CPU intesive but managable
  WMV         I doubt it's not possible. :-(
QuickTime       Yes it can play some vidoes, although some codecs are not supported
  AVI         Same with quicktime
RealVideo Have not tested it on classics, but possibly not supported
3pg  Have not tested yet tested but I'm not optimistic about it
SWF Movies      I'm looking forward to OS4/MOS1.4 PPC as to they're very memory intensive

Well, so far these are the standard formats I've tested on my classic
A1200/030.
All I intend to do is a little video production on a meager system and
see if it's possible. As much as possible I should be able to edit,
delete or insert scenes, if possible, then burn it to VCD.
Some more tips would be helpful.
Thanks to all

My Amiga: A1200 (2) accel Viper030 with 16mb & GVP030 with 8mb + MMU
Video cam: Nokia6600
PC office: A IBM Thinkpad with IR for file transfer

Get something which has at least 25 times the amount of processing power you now have.

Sure you can do a few fancy things with the Amigas, but I would have a PC to just tie the entire project together.  Maybe render something cool on the Amiga, then put it all together on the PC.  :-D

Just ideas....  :-)

Greetings,

@Bloodline
Yup! Poor me. :-( It's all I have ATM. Besides the clips I want to edit were only 9secs-1min long. Shouldn't be too hard on my 'meager' Amiga. No title and specal effects and stuff that would really requre High End systems.
@all
Yeah, just ideas anyhoo... :-D I was thinking converting all clips to, at least to .IFF then later add some sounds(music) backgrounds, but sounds like tall order. Would prolly require Upgrading w/c ,I said before, can't do it. My wallet has 'meager' value. :-(
DOH! a 'meager' PeeCee can do it better! It has video suite anyhoo.. :-( like Ulead and stuff...  Where's the fun in that? :-)

Regards,

Gizz

Video editing with a 030, I'd say don't even try. You'd probably have more luck using the work PC for that (if it's anything remotely modern).

Makes me wonder why my mobile is more powerful than a 030. With SymbianOS and 32MB MMC, no hard disk yet that mobile can playback video better than a 030. Very frustrating indeed. :ranting:
And I thought it was a good idea. Thanks Odin and all. Might as well go back to deluxe paint animation then. *sigh :-(

A4000 Power Supply?
« Reply #10 on: February 28, 2005, 05:41:04 AM »
Hi all
I'm toying with an idea for a new power supply that can be used in the A4000 desktop. This power supply will be a bolt in so no cutting or hacking is required. Also the power supply will be around 250 watts and will be a smaller profile then the original,  so a cd drive will fit in the slot above the floppy.
  Any interest?

your mobile phone, is able to handle videos with frames at 128x128 pixels or so . . . do you wanna make video editing at such resolution? :-)

For handle video resolution/depth on an Amiga you need:

at least a 040 and a VLabMotion

Without an hardware codec . . . forget it ;-)
