Yeah but now you cant use it, unless you have an AC supply.  No good.

Unfortunately vacuum motors suffer from the same problem, without the fan they overheat in a matter of seconds. Now with the new motor, the pump is (Or at least sounds) as if it actually runs slower than with the original motor, despite the removal of the reduction gearing. It’s also slightly quieter in operation.

Good Lord...  A bit of overkill on the motor, perhaps?  :-)  I'd fear destroying the pump mechanism.

I'd have thought a vacuum cleaner would have been a more appropriate size?

But for sure, motor overheating, not a problem anymore.

It's a compressor. Just it now runs from mains, rather than with a severely-underrated motor from the car 12v supply as it used to.

If you mean, how is it different to the cheap-and-nasty 12v one that was used to build it, well the motor shouldn't suffer from overheating anymore :-) (Albeit the compressor does still warrant a cooling down period from time to time).

FYI, Just in case, the big thing with all the copper windings on the right is the mains motor (Under a cover) and the compressor is the small cylinder on the left with the air gauge/line on the end. But you already knew that :-D
