Iffparse library always bothered me.  It's very low level.  I've used IFFlib but it didn't let me load iffs into 24 or 32 bit buffers.  I think it only loaded into bitmaps.  Is there a better iff library out there or should I go straight for datatypes.  Do they work in full color now?  Is there any documentation for using datatypes or any librarys to take the grunt work out?
