I have 2 a4000,s a non working tower and a dodgy desktop both have been repaired before i got them
That was your problem... you bought pre-torn-up hardware.... Of course a motherboard that has been beat up and soldered and everything else isn't going to be exactly reliable...
The base 4000 is a MUCH more solid machine than the base 1200, though.
And, the 4000 can be better than the 3000 with a few fixes. (Supplied by Phase5 - I still miss them) Take out the junk 68040 processor card, replace with a Phase5 68060 with fast ram and SCSI, plus a nice CyberVision card... Beautiful rig. Of course, I may be biased. ;-)
But, seriously... I've owned and used as a primary computer my 4000/040 (as both an 040 stock and then with the CS060) and a 1200 with GVP'030. No comparison. The 4000 was a TON more stable. Absolutely bulletproof, for it's time. I have bought two brand-new 1200s, and neither of them were as stable as my 4000. Heck, my 4000 is still a ton more stable than my basic A1200+FastRam, of which the case has never been opened!
The 3000 and the 4000 were C='s best two machines. And the 4000 has more potential than the 3000, therefore, it's my favorite. (Though the 3000 was better out of the box, with built-in SCSI and faster RAM) The 1200, while a fun little toy, wasn't in the same league as either of them.
