Hmm, wasn't it around (an) October when this whole mess started to go down?

No it was much earlier than that. Go back and search for Bolton Pecks post on ann.lu. Read that and you will get a feeling of when it started.

You will also note how certain happenings/public announcements corresponds pretty good to some time indications in Mr Pecks post. It explains a lot of the mysterious turns from Amiga back then.

and the box of 70 or so SDK software.

Wasn't the SDK released in two (or more) different versions, one initial and one updated version later on (that required a signed NDA?). Is it possible to tell which version this is?

(EDIT - BTW, the http://www.merlanica.us/amigaauction/amigaboinged.jpg and http://www.merlanica.us/amigaauction/aadell1.jpg doesn't seem to work)

Peck's lawsuit was end of 2002 - in 2002 there were quite a few lawsuits against Amiga - the getting locked out of the offices, the Airborne Express lawsuit, Pecks and Fontenot's lawsuits - it pretty much hit Amiga all at once (in about 4 months or so).

Peck's lawsuit will be made available shortly. (Scanned court docs).

And certainly his remarks have the ring of truth.

The state license will be up also shortly. (Can only use my Mavica as using my sony camcorder with the 560x zoom is difficult since windows took a dive on me.

For sale - I don't know. If I could get a REAL nice price for it - have a ton of credit card debt as the entire trip and auction purchases went on my CC.

I don't like debt - I've learned my leson from years ago.

--------------------
The SDK was released in a Red Hat Linux version and a Windows version. I have approx 70 of the Red Hat Linux version.

As far as the NDA goes - I don't think there is much chance of Amiga forcing people at this point to sign NDA's - plus I have legal title to the ones I have and I'm selling them at a good price. ($55). Brand new.

As for the links there are typos in the word merlancia -

http://www.merlancia.us/amigaauction/amigaboinged.jpg and
http://www.merlancia.us/amigaauction/aadell1.jpg

might as well just go to amigaauction/ and grab all the files there.

You have never had to sign an NDA unless you wanted to receive SDK updates from our services site.

You're quite mistaken, Rich.  Amiga does require an NDA in order for the owner of the SDK to download updates.  Until this changes, neither myself, Gary Peake nor any other Amiga support person will give the purchaser download access to updates without the signed NDA.

So, whether you or I or anyone else likes it or not, someone CAN buy these from you legally but they will not get the support they'll require without signing the NDA, until and unless policy changes.

And, btw, I'm just making sure your "customer" is well aware of the procedure.  Don't shoot the messenger.

Ray, see your very next message in this thread.  You said that receiving the SDK update is a requirement for using the product, and therefore the NDA is also a requirement.

well is it, a requirement or not?

I'll help you...your next message was the accurate one....

signing an NDA is, indeed, a requirement, or this product is simply not useful.  signing an NDA is a strange and bizarre restriction for a development environment...I mean most companies would have opted for high publicity and maximum distribution, but then Amiga went for the no-profits, obscurity route....bold choice, how is that working out for you?

well, that another topic, but it does make these SDK's not very useful. imho

@MarkTime:

Yes, so unusual... can you explain why Genesi was also doing this a few months ago?

Ooh, ooh, I know! maybe the technology wasn't FINISHED yet and they wanted to polish it before distributing it to the rest of the world? I know THAT is what you're going to say wrt MOS, right?  ;-)

@Marktime

Uhm..  Where did you read this?  It certainly wasn't in what I posted.

I did not say that an SDK update was required for the product to be used.

I said, Amiga requires no NDA to be signed UNLESS YOU WANT AN UPDATE (e.g. download a newer version than you have, if there is a newer version available).

I know the difference is pedantic, but what I said is correct. The original boxed SDK was (and for some, still is) indeed useful as amigadev.net is full of applications that were ported to it.  It isn't the "latest and greatest" but for those who don't want to sign an NDA (or even an SDA), it is still useful, although less than it would be with the NDA/SDA.

In any case, I am aware of personally of what (some) developers feel on the free SDK topic.   I agree that free and widespread would rock, but I do not make those decisions. Amiga has licensing fees to pay so, we cannot give away the SDK.  If we could, you can bet your hiney Gary and I would have made it available far and wide, long ago.

The future could change this and you could possibly see a free AmigaDE/-Anywhere SDK someday but I cannot promise this as you may or may not be aware, there are still a few hurdles to bypass until we get to that point.

@Cyberus

I am inclined to believe it would get a bid or two.   A friend of mine goes looking for these obscure items (for the shock value) and has found used underwear and all sorts of things on Ebay.

I'm sure Rich might be able to post some of the used snot rags he got from the cans of garbage he rummaged or bought too.  Some people around here might even bid, seeing it as an alternative to Bill's CEO card.  ;-)
