Post by: felicitydavis1556 on November 18, 2022, 03:41:55 AM
Hi,

Is there anyway I can get my commodore 1084s to run in PAL high res laced without flickering?

Thanks!

I remember using a program from aminet.
You ran program and reduced colours down to 128, if I recall.
Cant remember name of program though.

I used a program called MagicTV but I think you are limited to 16 colours and it is for an AGA machines only.

Thate the one, I dont remember having to set it that low. It was either 128 or 64, but no lower.

Sorry, accidently modified your post instead of quoting, :(.

Short answer: not really.

Longer answer: there are some tweaks to monitor drivers and color palettes (like those linked in this thread) that can make a little bit of difference. My understanding is that the main cause of flicker is the sharp contrast between black and white lines on the screen, so if you soften those colors it should calm things down a bit. I also remember using a monitor filter back in the day that helped some as well - have a look on eBay for a vintage CRT filter.

I eventually became accustomed to the flicker. :)

Yep,that's the best bet! It made PageStream 2.2 and AmigaWriter usable on a RGB TV back in the day though think it was limited to 16 colours. I think my eyesight might have started failing in my 20s without this great program!
