Title: The Behr Bonz multicart - 127 games for your VIC-20
Post by: on January 29, 2008, 11:52:21 PM
A simple little cartridge the same size as the board inside Commodore made VIC-20 game cartridges. Except of course, it contains 127 games instead of only one.

Now shipping!

30$ per unit. Canadian dollars.

Shipping cost depends on your location.

2. Are you offering any sort of quantity discount?

3. Do you accept Paypal?

Thanks

I *assume* the very reasonable 30$ price is the electronics only, I doubt the maker actually charges for the games....

At least the old llamasoft titles seem to be PD:
Quote
Many of these titles are now Public Domain, so if you have a favourite game from days gone by and are looking for more information on it or a free download for emulation, then select an era from the list below to begin browsing...

I was just asking. The wording there is a bit vague (something being available for download on the internet is no guarantee of anything).

It's kind of strange that there seems to be some concern over the legality of these old Vic20 games, while people seem quite pleased that the OS4 code for the Mac Mini was leaked to the internet from a stolen laptop.

It's a strange old world.   ;-)

Interestingly there has been slight change (or reinterpretation) of the amiga.org posting guidelines. Apparently unless if Hyperion takes action the threads and links will stay. I have no clue of OS4 is some way special case, you'll need to ask the moderators.

Direct links to warez have gone unchecked lately, so I guess I should take that as an indication of the new policies.

It's probably a sad sign that there is so little actual retail software available now that warez are becomming a way of life.

How's MOS 2.0 for the Efica coming along?  I have a board and if I had the OS to run on it then I could support some software developers on that platform?

Wayne could clarify further, but here is my take on the current moderation policy concerning piracy.

Previously no discussion whatsoever was allowed. However this was viewed as overbearing and draconian, plus US copyright laws have become more lenient concerning so called abandonware. The new policy still enforces concerning direct promotion of viable/recently supported software and leaves other areas a little more slack.

Is there any genuine concern that it is unethical to allow this discussion?

Seriously, let me know and I will forward to Wayne. Also I have not seen any direct links to warez, if you see such a thing feel free to PM a moderator.

I have made this product only with software that was available for more than a decade for free download over the internet from various sources.

I got my ROM images from the Zimmer's commodore related web site.

All software on this cart were published prior to 1985.

I truly hope nobody thinks I charge for the software itself.

As for PAL compatibility, I can only say that "most" (but not all) games on the Behr Bonz cart are compatible with the PAL system.

They ALL work with NTSC systems.

I suggest to european buyers that they wait as I will release a fully PAL compatible version of this cart in one month or two.

The vic-20 Denial forum is exclusively for VIC-20 users.

I can't give screenshots for 127 games but you can test them yourself using the Xvic included in the VICE emulator and ROM images published on www.zimmers.net

If you have 127 games to recommend and know for sure work with PAL VICs, I would like you to tell me.

I previously posted the names of all games contained on the Behr Bonz. Maybe you could tell me which ones don't work well with PAL and recommend other titles as replacements.

Nick Coplin is working on that. However, unlike VIC, C64 carts do not have a standard "presentation" from the computer's point of view. Manyare more than 16k in size and have special systems for flipping visible content.

It would be possible to limit yourself to 16k only games that contain no special hardware but I already hear all the people complaining about missing games.

My personnal favorite C64 cart is Super Zaxxon... Much better than the disk based version. I truly don't have a clue how I could make a multicart that includes this game. It has 20k of ROM stored in a weird manner that uses minimal banking.

All the large capacity carts with 256k ROMs are completely off limits considering my own abilities and they are likely to be the most requested games.

To canadian people:

I have been asked time and time again for shipping cost by canadian people who don't give me their postal code, assuming I can get the information only with a city's name. I can't.

Here is how you calculate the shipping rate if you live in Canada:

Go to http://www.canadapost.ca/personal/tools/rc/res/bin/rc_res-e.asp and enter my postal code (originator's postal code is H1Z 3P4), your postal code, a max weight of 0.2kg and dimensions of 3 x 15 x 25 cm then hit SUBMIT. Look up the total price for Xpresspost service (I refuse to ship fragile items like that through the normal service as they get damaged too often) and add 2$.

Canada post has flat rates for shipping to the US and europe. Accordingly, I charge 9$ for the US and 10$ for europe.
For these, I use the small packet airmail service.

Chicken S#@t.  This guy did nothing wrong on this forum.  And, it's not like VIC=20 games have anything whatsoever to do with the Amiga-these games are all 25 years old , some almost 30!

Maybe one of the game's creators found out and was upset?  That could be the only legitimate reason I could imagine for the ban but even that is kind of stretching it..

I don't know whats going on with all this here really regarding whether the guy deleted his account or got banned or whatever. For what it's worth I think the Vic 20 thing he's built looks good and is pretty nicely made. I've never talked with this guy and I've never heard of him before until very recently.

He did in a previous thread on this board threaten to sue another guy on this board for dare saying that his power supply implementation was a fire hazard. I don't know what's going on on that other board where I read 10 pages of him and other people cursing at each other and acting like total jerks but I know that when that kind of crap starts flying here threads tend to get popped and some times somebody gets removed. I don't hit f5 on amiga.org every 2 minutes so I tend to miss a lot of the action and that's why I'm not feeling sorry for anybody. Especially when I've seen bad behavior in multiple threads on multiple other boards. And lets not forget the Vic thing is basically a warez cart.

The ban had nothing to do with the Behr Bonz cart. He was banned for repeated verbal assaults on a moderator(myself) and a few others in PM which is a repeated violation of the posting guidelines (http://www.amiga.org/modules/sections/index.php?op=viewarticle&artid=6). See HERE (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=36146) if you want to wade into the mud. This person reacted with a (baseless) threat sue Amiga.org.
