libc.so.6 what is it?

any linux heads know what this is? what does it do? what is contained with in it?!

I know its soem sort of library, but what is its significance?  

would i be right in saying it contains functions? such as strcat?

please help meee.

Libc is the C standard library which contains string functions and printf and similar such functions.  The .so suffix means shared object.  That is similar to a .library file on AmigaOS.

got an assignment due in on friday about CVE-2005-0709 MySQL vunrabilities and i havent got a clue!! but im learning fast.. oh yes!
