Title: ACA1221ec memory upgrade
Post by: sturulez on December 23, 2020, 08:50:41 PM
Is it possible to upgrade the memory expansion on the ACA1221ec?

The issue I have with the card is when I load up workbench I only have 6,119,392 of other mem.

When I try to load some games from WHDLoad I get a message “ Can’t allocate ExpMem”

I was just hoping I could get a memory expansion on the card as I believe it only has 9mb.

'Some games' need several megs of free, often contiguous RAM, like 900kB for each disk pre-loaded. So turning off preload in the slave for those games will help initially. Some game launchers can save precious memory too, e.g. XBench or TinyLauncher.

If the ACA does not offer software RAM upgrade via licensing then your option is to swap the card with a bigger one, probably a turbo.

edit: typo

From what I found out the EC version doesn't offer an upgrade via licensing. Maybe if I was to purchase the LC version of that card as it has 16mb of physical memory it would be enough to run all my WHDLoad games?

Nobody knows all of your games, but some CD32 games require serious amounts of RAM if preloaded, you are not even in the same league.
Why not list the games troubling you?
