Renegades Deluxe is now available for download.
« on: October 30, 2014, 09:31:13 AM »
Hello.

It's been an eventful 3 years since I decided to go back to our old Amiga P.D title Renegades, life getting in the way of stuff the way it tends to do but I was determined to get it finished.

I recently took a week off work so I could prepare my art for Preston Comic Con but instead spent all week editing maps and various bits and pieces in my bid to get this finally done, luckily for me the programmer was fully onboard by the time we finished (around 6 P.M tonight) and so we went at it with full force, just to get it finally out there.

It means more to me to finally release this version than I can ever explain, 'it's only a P.D game from 20 years ago!' may be your thoughts but to me it has bugged me so much that I simply HAD to fix it. Looks-wise it's the best I am capable of creating, gameplay wise it's the best we can do with what we had without yet another total re-write and Kevin simply doesn't have the time.

This is the best Deathmatch game we could squeeze out of Kevin's Renegades engine.

Changes to the original:

  • No 'Made in Amos' screen, instead it's 'Pickups explained'
  • New title screen artwork
  • New titlescreen music by Marcus Becker
  • New character selection screen
  • New character selection graphics
  • Slightly tweaked character stats
  • New in-game screen
  • New tileset
  • New maps
  • Jammed doors
  • Fake walls
  • Random pickups that vary each time you play the map
  • Injury (more injured walk slower)
  • Bleeding when injured.
  • Randomised 'Winner' and 'Loser' messages.

Please enjoy the game (2 player ONLY I am afraid) and if you're able to take photos of yourself playing the game with a friend please send them to my email: waynenipple@hotmail.com...I need to prove to Kevin that people STILL play on Amiga games and may actually play Renegades Deluxe too.

Holy smokes! Not home atm, so Ive only looked at some of your art on the homepage. Some serious artistic skill there!

Your personal project looks real good too.

Im just going to throw it out there; do you and Kevin consider making it crossplatform like companies like Cherry Darling do to add customer impact. I realise its just a "pet project" by the sounds of it, but an artist like you would be a blessing to our platforms :)

Anyhow, will give the game a try when i get home!

Have you added any in-game music? I looked at the WIP video on YouTube and it seems like it could use some to add a bit of atmosphere. Looks nice btw, Especially the title screens.

Thanks for the warm response guys. I just couldn't let this game go...I just had to complete it.

We won't be cross platforming it as I am certain that Kev is done with this game, aside from future map-packs I too am done.

I haven't rules out making more games in the future with their assets drawn in Dpaint (that would be a nice thing, to have a modern 2D game but with graphics made on the Amiga).

I am asking people to take people to take photos of  themselves playing our game, just for my own collection really but also to show Kev.

Again, thanks guys, If you can get a partner to play against I will say this game is great fun. :D
