Title: Amiga OS 3.9 A1200 Install Tutorial?
Post by: Amiga1200User on April 11, 2010, 06:08:19 AM
I have a lot of parts coming in for my A1200 Tower project. I have a 68030 Apollo accelerator w/16Mb ram. I have a 4 channel IDE card. I have a 40GB hdd and a ncie DVD/CDRW drive. I have WB 2.04 on disk and 3.1 ROMS. I have the OS 3.9 CD and would love to just install this.. But..

What I don't have is any idea whatsover of how to get OS 3.9 installed. Do I need to have WB 3.1 installed first??? How do I get the A1200 to boot from CD to install the OS. I have the CD and no documentation.

Would someone please write up a little tutorial on how to accomplish this?

THanks!!

I recently installed it on a compact flash card os3.9 using winuae.

I booted up with workbench 3.1 work bench disk and then ran the hd tool box stuff, set up the partitions, etc and then ran install on cd.

It was pretty easy going through this way, but am not familar how to do it with the setup you've got.

I have exactly the same problem! Bought 3.9 a year ago and have been fighting shy of it since my ONE avbortive attempt to install it on my A1200.
I have 3.1 on there at present, plus a Blizzard 030/50 and the buffered IDE board with a 2.5" internal hard disk divided into four partitions, plus a CD Rom drive onthe other bit of the IDE interface, running CDFS.

I tried booting with a floppy and then installing 3.9 and it all went horibly wrong.

Is there any kind of resource out there that might help us?
Problem is that my original install has been so ulrta reliable I have forgotten all that cool OS install stuff I used to know!

The best way to install AmigaOS 3.9 is to create the emergency boot floppy (you need to open the 3.9 installer by double clicking on it and select that option). Then you reboot your Amiga with that floppy inserted. After that double click again on the 3.9 install and choose to install it on an empty partition/HDD.

I'm running a Os 3.9 install on Winuae as we speak

I'm doing it this way:
Dummy wb 3.1 install on a pc-directory
boot from that directory with the Amiga OS CD copied to another dir, and added as a hardrive

I tried doing it without installing wb 3.1 and just running from the floppy (.adf image) but the installer needed rexxsys.library to be installed first

Sidenote:
I'm not done with this yet as it's still installing but so far so good

Edit:
It works !
It booted from my cf-card (still in Winuae though)
