A1222 Plus ("Tabor") news from Amiga Ireland 2021?
« on: January 16, 2021, 04:37:55 PM »
On Saturday, January 16th the annual Amiga trade show "Amiga Ireland 2021" took off. Because of the pandemic, this year's show is an digital affair - and unlike last year, every piece of it is meant to be broadcasted online.

According to the official schedule, Trevor Dickinson - head of the Amiga manufacturing company A-EON - was meant to give an update on the development progress of the upcoming, budget friendly and PowerPC-based A1222 Plus Amiga. Quite a lot of people are probably interested in this, since A-EON themselves haven't posted any updates since AmiWest 2020 in mid-October.

Would anyone who watched the video stream be kind enough to summarize what Dickinson said?

Latest official news was from Dec 7:
Quote
The A-EON A1222 Plus builds upon the older Tabor design with sections of the motherboard updated to address obsolescence of components.

To ensure there are no hardware surprises at least five motherboards are being manufactured to prove the updated A1222 Plus design changes. A-EON has partnered with ACube Systems s.r.l to handle this process.

Following the successful proof of design, the Early Adopter batch will be manufactured and it is currently estimated that delivery will commence in the second quarter of 2021.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I understand it a1222plus.com is being maintained by AmigaKit. If that's correct, my request remains - it would be nice to hear what Dickinson said at Amiga Ireland 2021 earlier today.

Did Trevor participate or not?

Trevor kicked off proceedings but since all the production, logistics and delivery of the A1222Plus has been delegated to AmigaKit (and Q2 2021 for the EA batch is the only release info given) then I doubt he had many new details to share. It’s good that Trevor and Steve Solie are the public faces of A-EON and the ExecSG team respectively but they are not always the ones with the answers  :(

It’s taking a while for that machine to come out.

@TribbleSmasher

There’s no update on the A1222Plus other than confirming ACube are working on the 6 prototypes and that Chinese factories declined the work due to COVID! If you like Trevor watch it but if you want to be reassured you’ll be able to order one before Christmas 2021 then wait until June I’d say.

Bully for you! Please appreciate the fact that you, the 6 prototype testers and 99 other EA owners will (probably) have access to this hardware in 2021 while for the rest of us it isn’t quite so clear! Not ideal because I’m sure you’d like to be part of a community of multiple 100s of A1222Plus owners if not 1000s! That will seemingly not occur in 2021  :( Or else you’re happy it’s a cheaper AmigaOne computer but still for “the classes” that will hold it’s value due to its rarity that will make it a good museum piece in the future?
