Chuck Peddle: 1937 to 2019-12-15
« on: December 20, 2019, 11:20:20 PM »
Team 6502.org has reported that Chuck Peddle passed away on 15th December.  I also see it on Wikipedia, and on Twitter.  I am somewhat shocked that this news has apparently not broken in the wider Commodore community, including this one.

I grew up with Commodore computers and the direction I have taken in life has been hugely influenced by the experiences I had with these machines as a child (especially the AMIGA).  I became an electronics engineer and computer programmer, and I think I owe a lot to the inspiration I had from my first 'proper' computer - the C64.

I once built my own computer based on the 6502.  It didn't really do much, but I learned a ton from it.  And assembly on the 6502 was a joy to me at the time.

Thanks Chuck.

I was pretty sad to see this too.

So many people owe Chuck gratitude for the introduction of a great, low cost processor that allowed so many computers and consoles to be built around it. I grew up with the Commodore 64 (and then the 128 and then the Amiga). My parents would not have spent the money for the Apple line but the Commodore line was much more affordable (and better).  It opened a whole new world for me as a kid.  I suspect many had the same experience.

Thanks Chuck!   RIP Sir, you have earned it.

Sad news indeed.  I remember reading his account of the time (and immense contribution) at Commodore in the book by Brian Bagnall.
