WHDload DOS Error 205 /kick34005.A500
« on: September 22, 2014, 06:32:59 PM »
So I installed WHDload in Winuae, and as I recall happening in the past on my real Amiga, some games ask for roms. In this case it is asking for "Devs:Kickstarts/kick34005.A500"

According to this page I just have to rename my amiga-os-130.rom from my Amiga Forever CD, but no... no that just will not do. The error continues even after resetting WinUAE.

So what's the deal? I paid for the roms, they don't work, so now what?

http://www.whdload.de/docs/en/need.html

Thanks in advance.

Look for the "rom.key" file in your Amiga forever cd-rom.
It must be under the same directory with the roms.
Copy the "rom.key" file in "DH0:/Devs/Kickstarts" and try again.

Key file is present. All files from SKICK are present in the correct directory too.

Errrr... yes it's me Christopher... who are you and who is "shall not be named?!?!?!" Creepy!!! :)

So if the Amiga Forever roms are encrypted, does that mean they can not be used or need to be decrypted in order to work?

Also, does one of the downloads from the link you shared provide roms that are not encrypted and will work?

What you can actually do is start up an emulated 1.3 environment with the encrypted ROM, use a ROM grabber from within the emulation, and voila - you'll have yourself an unencrypted ROM. You just need a way to get the file to your emulated 3.x environment - very easily done if you're using the Windows-directory-as-hard-drive filesystem, otherwise you'll need to "sneakernet" via floppy (ADF) or hard drive (HDF).

Oh yes, Rom Grabbers, I forgot all about them! Thanks, great idea!

EDIT: been a while, what Aminet software is good for this?

Why they bothered to encrypt the ROMs makes no sense. Amiga Forever is one of the easiest files to find torrent wise!
Too many A500s
2x A1200 (3.1 DKB Cobra inc. Ferret)
A2000 HD

And the roms, too. But to find a working one is a different story. Remembering when I tried to use WHDLoad on my A4000 and all slaves were written for A1200. So A4000 3.1 Rom didn't work. After wading thru 10 or more A1200 kick images I finally found something that did work. Probably partly after my nagging to WHDLoad guys they finally began adapt for A4000, too (sigh of relief).

I ended up finding a set of roms I'd pirated a while back and they worked fine and were already re-named for me. Didn't have to resort to Grabkick after all, though I wish Amiga Forever would not have encrypted them in the first place, would have saved me a little drama.
