Picasso IV question... yet again
« on: May 30, 2006, 03:01:14 PM »
Hi, everyone.

It seems I can't find a clear answer on the following question. Does Picasso IV scandouble native AGA modes or does it not? I know it has build-in flicker-fixer and doesn't pass-through hires modes, but what to 15KHz modes?

Yes it does as long as your trying to use NTSC or Pal display modes.
There is also a jumper that might need changing for AGA, so check
your documentation.

Thanks for the swift answer.
I surely will check my manual.
However, if I can see only WB screen on my LCD (no boot screen is visible), does it mean that scandoubler's burnt out?

Do you see anything?

Is there anythign showing that it's trying to put up an image?

You may also want to read you LCD docs and see if IT syncs down to 31Khz, I've seen other disscousions on this board talking about that saying so do and some don't...

I don't see anything when it boots, right until the moment WB starts. Might be LCD itself indeed. Thanks for the tip. :)

Unless there is something that shows something while booting, then seeing just the wb screen is ok.

Can you see the early startup-screen on the lcd? (press both mouse buttons when powering on the machine). If you cant see it, then you might need to tweek your scandoubler's refresh rate using PicassomodeTNG. The default refresh rate of the picasso's IV scandoubler might be too low for the lcd to catch it.
Anyway is the only way

I'd think the refreshrate is actually too high (!) for the LCD. LDS take Refreshrates from 50-65 Hz. The Picasso Flickerfixer can go up to 100 Hz. I had to adjust that rate using PicassoModeTNG when I changed from a CRT to an LCD.
Not really interesting, but it`s there.

When using the PicassoIV I regularly dont get any bootscreen and nothing until workbench.

My Scandoubler is fine.

However if you select early startup-menu (hold down mouse on boot) that works fine.

If you boot a game that works fine.

I am using a CRT so I have no problems with refresh.

If I connect a 15khz monitor to the Amiga RGB port (23-pin) I do see the bootup.

I just put it downto a quirk of the Picasso IV

@alexh

your FliFi flashrom probably has been wiped... load the old picasso96 TNG old program and save the flicker fixer settings.

You will recover your flickerfixer for cold boots :-)

Make a soft reboot and hammer on the shift key until the P-IV setup screen shows up. Now reset the flickerfixer settings. The currenly settings are out of range of your monitor
