Seems you guys are into fancy cases.

Not necessarily Kay.  I like the simple but elegant cases too.  And the brushed aluminum on a case with nice clean lines usually does that for me as well (notice "The Frozen Case")  It really is kinda plain except the cutouts and the neon light.  I tend to like stuff that matches the other stuff too.

The Dragon cases are really popular, and I don't think you would go wrong with it.

but I just can't justify to myself the ~$400 pricetag for a glorified shoebox

I hear ya man.  That's almost the cost of the AmigaOne SE, lol.  Better try to go with a cheaper case and get the higher spec'd XE to put it in.

DethKnight,

The clear case is awesome and I have had much seriousness in getting one of those, but I hear it doesn't protect you from electromagnetic death rays  :crazy:

WARNING:
This product is meant for education purposes only. It is unknown how much protection it provides EMR (electromagnetic radiation), if it provides any protection at all.

now the above warning is from this site:

PCmods

If you find out that it's not as bad as it sounds and that we're getting zapped daily from other radioactive materials anyways, let me know!

It's not you that needs protecting from "death rays" coming from your PC - it's the quality of reception of any radio/TV equipment you (or your neighbours) may have.  An AmigaOne with an 800MHz G4 CPU will radiate EM waves at the 800MHz spectrum from the CPU itself and 133MHz from all the traces in the motherboard.  There are some components on the mobo itself to stop this (it weakens the signals going from chip to chip if it's all radiated away), but you need some form of shielding to block the rest.  On a radio tuned to that frequency you will hear all sorts of interesting white noise, and on a TV you will get 'snow'.

Cool avatar, BTW  :-D

If ya sit within 3 feet of your monitor, providing its not LcD/TFT then, game's over anyway.
Why worry about mobo/drives/psu

@The_Editor

I'm on the Matrox ML and I got sent a CD with mini clips on showing off what the RTx10 and x100 can do, impressive stuff! That's why I mentioned it in my post, it'd be a great bonus to have something like that on the A1. Since Matrox and Amiga have some kind of 'relationship', it wouldn't be out of the question for an Amiga developer to get the hardware details.

@Thomas

An Amiga equivelant of TMPEnc would be cool,as would a clone of VirtualDub.

Well you could always contact NASA and ask the for the details of the company that make the visors for the astronauts.
They're coated with a special 24 carat gold film which stops all kind of 'death rays'. The same technology is used on the cockpit windows on Concorde.
Not only would it protect you, but it would look pretty cool as well.

A in-core multitasking multiplatforming (AmigaDE-in-a-flash-chip) with as much gigaherzes as you may willing to pay for, A custom chipse for adressing memory and expansions (five expansion slots that'll do me) in a slick CDTV case and a cordless keyboard + mouse (using bluetooth to annihilate interference) and two good custom made joypads (one pure digital Atari2600 stick and on the other side a tiny trackball and on the front two "balls" (like on modern mouses in the middle) and four buttons on the back. The interface of AmigaDE must be a bit redesigned, but my wishes for that costs another page (while I only want it far smaller with no "pre-installed" stuff to struggle with and a very direct "usable file handling"), Of course a DVD-burner (SCSI) and a harddisk built-in, Also must there be an apart custom expansion slot for the video card. And of course all this stuff must be QUIET I do not like noise through my delicate sensible music and I do not wish to fuss around with drivers etcetera I want next-gen Amiga :pint:
