DF1: Problems!
« on: September 10, 2008, 11:46:15 AM »
My set-up is in my siggy.

I want to connect an external drive to my miggy.

All that happens is the drive appears but is unusable, you can't format disks or read from them, if try to format you get a sync error.

I have changed the the internal drive (DF0:) which works fine.
Even changed the A1200 inside, still the same error!

If I strip everything down and don't use my IDE Express then all is well, so my guess is it is down to the IDE Express, I have the one that also clips to the Gayle chip.

Anyone have any ideas!!!

Do you have a driver that loads in your Startup-Sequence for your IDE Express?  If so, its possible the Startup-Sequence has become corrupt some how.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for trying help.

Nothing wrong there, in fact I get the error without installing the IDE Express drivers.

I'm convinced that its to do with the hardware that sits on the Gayle chip as without it all is fine.

I have done fresh installs of 3.9 and 3.1 and still the same problem, even booting from a floppy does the same.

Is this an Amiga Tech. A1200 or a CBM A1200?  I believe a percentage of the Amiga Tech motherboards have issues with external drives.

Hi Bob,

It's a CBM one Rev 1B, I have tried a 1D4 as well, and had the same problem.

I have several external drives and it's the same on all of them.

My guess is the problem is caused by the IDEFIX Express.
If I remove this all is well...
