Voting time for the Amiga Games Making Competition
« on: January 02, 2010, 08:07:44 AM »
Hi everyone. It's finally time to vote for the First Festive Amiga Games Making Competition entries. I have set up a web page with each of the entries which were completed within the contest deadline. Please download and play each game before rating it between one and five stars. The games that receive the highest ratings will win.

If someone running an Amiga emulator would like to take some better quality screenshots of the title screen and gameplay for any of these games to replace the ones on this page, I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you to all those who took the time to enter the contest, and to those who missed out on the deadline but still gave it a go anyway. We would love to help you all finish making your games so they can be released on our upcoming Christmas games CD.

Thanks to everyone for playing and voting!

Sam n' Max does not work for me. When I fire it up from Workbench I get the message "Screen not opened". If I run it from CLI (no s-s), I get the message "Illegal function call".

To get the Sam & Max game to work you need to assign GRAC2: to the drive or directory where the Sam&Max/ drawer is in. For example, if you have the drawer in Work:Games/Sam&Max you need to type this first:

Assign GRAC2: Work:Games/

I hope this helps you get the game working, if not let us know.

The contest winner isn't the one with the most amount of votes, but the highest average rating. At the moment the ratings are:

1. X-Mas Syman - 3.58
2. X-Mas Disaster 2999 - 3.02
3. Cornelius Saves Christmas - 2.93
4. Dwarves in the Iceland - 2.39
5. X-Mas Glass Ball Factory - 2.33
6. Sam & Max - 2.22
7. Santa Montana - 2.2

Good luck to everyone, it looks like it's going to be a close competition!

I will check it out, though the uploader of the game should have mentioned it in the readme or just create a script that executes the game. Not everyone has patience to check each possibility.

The author of the Sam & Max game was a little rushed towards the end of the contest, and I guess didn't have time to write an install script. He has provided a bootable ADF image of the game now though, which you can download from the rating page. It should be a little more accessible to people now.

You're absolutely right. I should have done and am sorry for the difficulty it caused you :-( I uploaded the game moments before the deadline and it was only afterwards I realised the issue.

I'm afraid this was the first thing I've ever made on the Amiga (or outside of Flash or DVD Studio to be perfectly honest) and the two weeks was a sharp learning curve. I still have a lot to figure out, so mailman, if you care to enlighten me in creating such a script I am eagar to learn. Otherwise I'm afraid all I can do is muddle along until I figure it out myself.

Thanks again to Cammy for creating this competition and inspiring me to try something new.

Hey everyone! There's still time to download and play, then rate the games for the contest so we can find our winners. Then we can get to work on our Christmas compilation CD and get the rest of the games finished.

We're also working on plans for our next contest, which we'd like to start in the beginning of February. We have a great theme to work with which we hope you'll like a lot, and with any luck and a little effort we'll get even more games to play :)

Hey, I just thought I'd post the current rankings. There's not much time left to vote for the winners, so don't delay, download the games and give them your critical rating!

Here are the current results:

1. X-Mas Disaster 2999 - 3.24
2. X-Mas Syman - 3.13
3. Cornelius Saves Christmas - 2.88
4. Dwarves in the Iceland - 2.43
5. Santa Montana - 2.22
6. Sam & Max - 2.18
7. X-Mas Glass Ball Factory - 2.1

To be honest, I'm not sure when it should be! We definitely want to finish the voting before the end of the month so we can announce the next contest, but we also want to give people enough time to find out about the voting page, play the games and rate them. If anyone is a member of any non-English speaking Amiga forums, perhaps they could mention the page and draw a little more attention to it. It might help make future competitions more successful too!

On Polish Amiga News Portal we follow the compo thread since the beginning.

I think that the dead line should be set until the end of February unless your next competition is in someway linked with any special calendar event.

Hi! I would like to ask what is the estimated time of making the CD compilation of the contest games? I ask because I'm the author of one of the games and would like to improve the game before the CD is created.

Congratulations to all those who can actually crank out a game in 2 weeks. I just had an idea for one. But, have zero programming skills. Maybe next year.
Amiga 3000D UP and running! Hear that clicking. 8)
Amiga 3000D & 4000D in storage sadly.
