Amiga dongle?
« on: May 15, 2016, 08:57:44 PM »
The question mark is because I don't know if it is or not :). Found it in a box of miscellaneous items that had been in storage for a while. The one on the left (with the extended PC board) has a switch in the casing hole - it's black so not easy to see. It also has DB25 connectors. The other module (with the white pot in the hole) has DB23 connectors. I'm assuming it's for some Amiga product, possibly having to do with disk drives because of the DB23s, and might be orphaned if it required any other hardware/software - once it's been identified I might be able to look around and see if I have the go-withs. Anyone recognize it?

Interesting item, however I have no idea what it is.

I have an Amiga dongle, but it uses the mouse / joystick ports.

I think the pot on the module with the 23 pin connectors suggests that it is more likely to plug into the video socket on the Amiga.

If you can remove the plastic shells it might reveal some components that may give a clue as to it's purpose.

Excellent! Thanks so much, now I know what to look for in my Amiga box(es). You'd think Google Image Search might have come up with that, but oh well.

And I actually did remove the case from the module with the extended PCB, but there was no branding or anything and the chips had the identifying info scratched off. Guess they didn't want anyone reverse-engineering :).

It's fascinating the way the Amiga's ports have been used for things they were never intended for.  I right about the video port but I'd have never have guessed it's purpose.

There's more detailed info here.

Some of you will know that Jim Drew is a bit more active in the Amiga scene in recent years.  He's been doing stuff for FPGA Arcade.

I just bought a couple of SuperCards from him.  Good stuff.
