Mac AMiga emulation
« on: February 26, 2003, 02:06:12 PM »
Hi All

Sorry just posted this in the wrong list.

Hi All

I have a nice new shiny Mac, my Amiga is still setup in another room.

I would like to Emulate the Amiga on my Mac.

Can anybody tell me the best Amiga emulator for the Mac running OSX?

Chris

There ain't none. The two major 68k Mac emulators are Fusion and Shapeshifter, both are great for emulating up to OS8.5 (?).

There's only one PPC mac emu, called FusionPPC. It only works on CyberstormPPC cards and is OS9.x maximum AFAIK. I saw it on sale for ~70EUR somewhere recently (vesalia? KDH?).

D'OH
I was talking about Mac on Amiga emu...you were asking the other way around :-D. I have no knowledge of that I'm afraid.

odin, washac meant are there any Amiga Emulators for MacOS-X machines ! (ie: he wants to eg: play speedball without going into the other room !)

washac,

a quick google (mmm new verb ? to google(v) to look for something on the internet !) produced this link. It is a (very !) beta download of an OS-X specific compilation of UAE - be warned its only been worked on since 29 December 2002 !

Let us know how you get on...

Shouldn't a BSD-based compile of UAE work just as well under OSX?

Not if Google has anything to say about it. :)

I've got MacUAE 0.8.6 and still haven't got a ROM, do I have to buy one from an authorised dealer online?

My A500+ isn't connected to the webernet so I can't e-mail one to myself as suggested by someone.

 :-(
AKA ED-209 on IRC...

Why not load up CrossDOS(tm) on the A500 and dump the ROM image to a PC formatted 720k disk? Surely your Mac can read PC floppies?
Even if it can't, you can take the floppy to a machine that can (NetCafe maybe!) and email the ROM image to yourself.
Cache Ya,
Craig.

@desmon:
Ah, the wonders of Macintosh: No floppy drives :-D
At least not since the G3 models were introduced...

@Mike_Amiga:
You could get Amiga Forever from Cloanto. You'll get all the ROMs from 1.0 to 3.1, plus the operating systems and some nice applications (TurboText, Personal Paint...)

Which is why I also mentioned the email method.
Even the OS3.1 ROM can't possibly be bigger than 512KB or it wouldn't fit on the chip, so it'd have to fit onto a 720K disk.
