Title: LoadWb
Post by: MikeA3000 on January 16, 2019, 11:23:11 PM
I have a question when booting my Amiga 3000 with 3.14 roms installed, when I hold down both mouse buttons and boot with no startup-sequence and then run LoadWB I get the prompt
to please insert volume ENV in any drive and the same with insert HELP. Is this normal I don't remember seeing this before since ENV is created in the startup-sequence?
Thanks,
Mike

That's why, LoadWB just loads WB, it doesn't execute the Startup-Sequence

I understand that but why is it asking for these volumes, is that normal?
Sorry been out of the Amiga for the last 20 years trying to get back into it with my hardware.
To me ENV should not be being prompted for when not using startup-sequence. So what is wanting the volume ENV and HELP?

ENV is a mandatory volume, IPrefs will ask for it if nothing else does sooner. HELP will be looked for the first time any amigaguide library/datatype calls are made, or when the workbench loads.

Thanks for clearing that up and explaining it NinjaCyborg!

What you've learned is, there's a minimum amount of stuff in startup sequence required before you can run loadwb. So if you boot with no startup then need to open the workbench, you had better run startup-sequence in its entirety, or make an edited down version if you know exactly which bits you do and don't need.
