How do you mean to interface it? SCSI?

Iomega ZIP - They're the only people who make them AFAIK

Several possibilities, Iomega makes them, but so does NEC. You have a choosing of 100, 250 or 750MB version, IDE, SCSI or USB version etc etc....

But why would you want one? Isn't a CDRW drive easier and cheaper?

Yes there is also, but i'm not so sure that there is a driver for this versions.
Tools for ZIP are already includes in OS 3.9 for both SCSI and IDE versions.

Not for any Amiga however. The driver proved to hard to write, so no one bothered.

Do you not require a special adapter for a parallel zip drive? I'm sure I've seen such an adapter on ebay a few times, the Amiga port is wired in a way that prevents a zip from working out the box?????

I think its already been concluded that it isn't a viable option!

In any case, it would be painfully slow

the parallel port version works with amiga but you have to build a dongle to attach to your joystick port. this is because the pc has a programmable parallel port and amiga doesnt.
unless you already have a scsi adapter on an accelerator or something go with ide it will work fine.
the a1200 ide port is unbuffered and uses one of the slower ide modes which can transfer at around 1.3 megs a second or so. so you can load the chip fram in a couple seconds or so. that is about as fast as a zip can go too. parallel port versions are around 200k. on pcs they actually use a scsi external port protecal that has to be simulated with the parallel port and joyport on amiga
scsi on an accelerator would be faster but more difficult to setup (dont even say it isn't more difficult, most people have trouble with scsi although that doesnt mean it doesnt work)
if you do go with scsi just remember the position on the cable compared to the adapter, id # different than anything else and termination if it is last on the cable and luck. ok luck should go first. well maybe first and last depending if your scsi bios and chip are up to date and driver.
Oh yeah?!?
Well your stupid bit is set,
and its read only!

@ PGit

I have an external SCSI Zip drive, and if your A1200 is not towered, that may be the one you are forced to get (if you go SCSI). On that drive you have a choice of two IDs only: 5 or 6. That Zip drive works fine: it was the first external SCSI device I used under 3.1

I had forgotten about CDRWs, maybe one of those would be better (especially as my CD ROM drive isn't working).

I copy quite a bit from the PC to the amiga, however they are on different floors. I currently use floppies to transfer the files but this is rather slow. (And means I have to keep going up and down stairs)

Zip disks are now hard to find in the shop, they have no more interest, low reliabilty (especially the drive), low transfert rate...
You'd better try a CompactFlash adapter to transfert the data between you amiga and your pc.
