Title: Minimigs on UK Ebay, and check out the sticker on the mobo!
Post by: dammy on September 24, 2007, 06:15:45 PM
You can now purchase a bare pcb Minimig at UK Ebay (http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZnusim1).  Check out what is printed on the mobo sticker (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Minimig-v1-1-PCB-Bare-Original_W0QQitemZ290164161113QQihZ019QQcategoryZ4193QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting).

Thank you Nusim Ltd!

 :-o  :-o  :-o

I am very interested but... where could we get the other components? Many of them are common but the FPGA is - you know - specific for MiniMig. Any hint about this?

Two days ago I've tested a working Minimig during Pianeta Amiga, it's really amazing. I want it!!!

Alex :-D

I have just sent the seller a message asking if complete minimigs would be possible for them to make and sell. Here's hoping!

Yes!

Just select United States from the drop down 'dispatches to' country menu.

£11.55 = $23.35 - exchange rate is a killer!

Just got a message back from Nusim about possibly building Minimigs:

"Hello
No firm plans at the moment.
We are building one up - will get a confirmed working list of components once we have done this.
We will post the component list on open Circuits.
Then we will look at manufacturing, possibly.
- nusim1"

Fingers crossed this could be answer to all the people who cannot do SMD soldering! One of the 5 boards has already sold since i last looked. I'm hoping that the £10 price (inc donation to AROS etc...) shows that they can make stuff cost effectivley. Obviously parts and time will be a major factor. More fingers crossed!

All 5 have gone now... If thats all five sold in a matter of hours... imagine how quickly a load of fully aseembled ones would sell!?

I see 12 available, all BuyItNow.  I almost bought one, but I have no easy way of acquiring the parts. Bugger.

Could this be Xenepp selling off the extra boards that he didn't have time to populate?

Depends on how many people want them. The episode guide for Mystery Science Theater 3000 sold out very quickly, so they made another printing run. Turns out that all the people that really wanted to buy the book had done so on the first printing, so it took a while for the second printing to get sold. Let's hope there's more than 5 people who want a nusim minimig pcb.

Let's suppose that there were oonly 5 people in need of a minimig 1.1 pcb, all the have to do is assemble a fully working minimig and those will sell no doubt. Also, selling them thru ebay does not mean they already have built them, they have a bloody factory, they could assemble the needed amount as orders pile-up, it is a win-win situation :-D

I bought myself a bare mobo, so now i have a nice project for the could and dark winter season   :-D
Now i just have to check out the component list, and look for component suppliers here in Finland.

Ooh! I might go get one for myself actually, just to show support. I have my fingers crossed that soon a ready-made  Minimig will be available!

If the worse comes to the worse, I'll just get it framed and it'll be a piece of modern art!
Title: DFM Check
Post by: doghouse on September 25, 2007, 10:17:34 AM
This might be slightly off-topic...
Yesterday, (before I read this thread) I contacted a company for a quote to get the minimig PCB board made. I sent them the Gerbers for a DFM check but they came back with numerous errors. (Elements of the PCB design being too close together etc.. I'm not really sure what it means... is it a design problem, or a warning of problems that might happen when PCBs are printed?)

Are these resolved on the boards currently on ebay?
(If it makes sense to ask this question)

Thanks. Apologies in advance if this is a stupid question.

These are warnings that point out various possible design faults. The company should know what the minimum spacing they can do, etc. for instance, so they should be able to tell you whether they can manufacture it or not. Many times, certain DMF warnings are ignored on purpose, for instance, if you know that two holes for pin-through components are too close together and you also know that it is inside your manufacturer's margins and the components do not collide in real life within those margins, you ignore them. These Gerbers have already produced working boards so if the manufacturer can produce them as they are they will work.

I did buy one with that in mind.  If fully populated boards become available before I try to put this one together, I will frame it.  $25US isn't really outrageous for a piece of art.

I'm kind of hoping that this is a test run to see if there is enough interest to do a populated run.

Of course, Crom00 is ready to get pricing on fully populated boards.  He only seems to be stuck on getting a full Bill Of Materials.

Anyone?  Anyone?

Now, I have the soldering tools and ability (fingers crossed), thanks to investing in a hot air solder rework station a few months back, but I don't have the FPGA programming tools - does anyone have the skills and tools to supply the FPGA?

The FPGA is programmed directly from the SD/MMC card whic you'll have to write from a PC or MAC I guess. Did you mean a PIC programmer instead as I think that has to be programmed.

I'm just waiting for two blank boards, one from Xenepp and the other from the ebay auction :-D

I've got two front PCMCIA ports on my A4000 which work perfectly with SD/MMC card readers/writers, so I'll try to keep this an "all Amiga" project :-) I even bought the bare board using my AmigaOne to access Ebay

Thanks mate, didn't realise that. Yes, I'd need to source a programmed PIC, or a PIC programmer. Might be relatively cheap to source, or I could try contacting on old University professor who might be interested...

How is it that you have PCMCIA ports on an A4000?
I have an IDE-to-CF adapter, but I didn't know you could add PCMCIA ports to an Amiga that didn't already have them :)

Using a scsi-pcmcia bridge (the MPL McDisk-E).
It provides 2 PCMCIA ports, allowing memory cards, compact flash, etc to be read (using a PCMCIA adapter), and claims to allow access to PCMCIA I/O cards too (although, since no Amiga drivers exist as yet, this is purely theoretical).
Works fine with memory cards though :-)

I have (somewhere) also a pcmcia box with a scsi interface, but I didn't know it would work on an Amiga. And I don't remember the brand. Where did you get the driver?

I just got my board from Nusim today when I got home from work, excellent work! It's so pretty I almost DONT want to deface it by building it! :-D

No driver required for this, the memory card is seen as a hard disk under hdtoolbox.
SCSI ID is set using jumpers on the board, and the unit uses standard scsi command set, so no drivers required.
