I've been wanting to make my workbench look cool for some time now and just cant figure out what to use to do it. I have heard birdie is a must have. When I downloaded it all I get is some commands.
Is this only a script? I was looking for a GUI or something for it. I've installed visualprefs (I think, all I can find after installing it is a GUI tool in my prefs dir) This seems to work well at
changing the colors of windows and stuff. What else is there? I've seen some awsome WB grabs here and want to do them. I love the transparrent windows and such.

If you are using the AGA, then its kinda limited to make your desktop look great. If you are using a gfx board, then you can really make it look nice with Amiga OS 3.5 or higher. As long as my Amiga boots and does what I want it to do, I can care less of what others think how the desktop looks! :-)

I agree, i also didnt get much with Birdie, i was expecting a preferences Editor, but all i got what the actualy program, which yes, did put some images into my borders. But i want/need to know how to control them.
Surly this program at least uses sometype of configuration file that i could edit?

Just wondering as I haven`t used birdie either.
1 Whats the stability of your system like when using birdie? Is it as stable?
2 Whats the memory usage like? I know I have 128mb RAM, but I don`t want it to use 500k of my
precious RAM. Especially if its chip RAM. RAM is like gold dust on my Amiga sometimes.
Has anybody got any advice on making your computer more stable, efficient or faster? Thats more
important in my opinion. Though i will get birdie going if its worth it. Its nice to have a nice
working environment. One your happy with. I`am quite happy with my computer system at the moment
(www.NOLIN.net/computer.htm), but wouldn`t mind making it better.

I found birdie destablised, slowed significantly my system. Id recommend against it.

Thanks Dave. Just as I suspected. My system is almost as pretty as I can get it without getting unstable, probably. I like my systems stabilility the way it is.

I would have to recommend to try birdie on your system and see how it works for you.
On my 4000 with Picasso II (only 1MB VRAM, grrr), it's been working great, even with me having to use an 040/25 again.
Just make sure you get Birdie Prefs as it's alot easier to control that way, and I had to use Birdie Prefs to tell it not to patch AWeb.

I found Birdie crashed constantly with PageStream4.1, Aladdin 4D and slowed window opening significantly.
PPC603e, 060, Mediator with Voodoo gfx card.
Try it sure but dont expect it to be a pleasurable experience for more than a day. Install in haste
repent at leisure.

I guess using a ZorroII gfx solution you might feel the slowdown more, but using Bvision on ppc card via direct pci bus, there is practicaly no slowdown at all using birdie on 040/25.
using a gradiant makes it a little slower, butnormal patterns its doesnt slow the windows down noticably at all.

And whats all this crap about messing with a prefs gui for birdie. The program comes with something even better.
a README file, which tells you exaclt y how to use it.
Im sure it would be quicker to read the help file then to ask how to use it on a message board ?
