OMG. 20+ years old software has been taken out from the grave of an ADF-only existence, for the delight of people who *needs* to use it on vintage systems, and you have to be worried about the licenses?

I agree. I have never liked Hyperion anyway. Neither Amiga Inc for that matter.

:pissed: ;)

This initiative should have been taken by the OS owners (A. Inc)

They are not allowed to.

or direct licensee (Hyperion)

They are allowed, but probably don't want to. After all, they are *already* pushing what they consider to be an evolved product based on Amiga OS 3.1.

Relax, I am pretty sure Michele and others at Cloanto correctly verified all the legal issues before doing this, considering the attention too much people pays in futile things.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see (on moobunny of course  ;)) how this unfolds!

:)
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :)

That is great that you can finally get replacement Workbench 3.1 disks.

I think another OS disk that would probably benefit the A1000 owners is the V1.3 KICKSTART disk.
I know many instances of people requesting them for their newly acquired A1000s.
A500 KS 2.1, 1MB Chip, 68000
A600 KS 3.1, 2MB Chip, ACA630 32MB RAM
A1000 KS 1.3, 8MB RAM
A1200 KS 3.1, Blizzard IV 50MHz 64MB RAM
A2000 KS 2.1, 68030 25MHz, 6MB RAM
A3000 KS 3.1, 68030 25MHz, 16MB RAM
A4000 KS 3.0, 68040 25MHz, 16MB RAM
CDTV KS 3.1, 4MB RAM
CD32
(AROS BOX) Dead :(

Nice to see this, but it looks like Amigakit is formatting HD media as DD media (see the two holes in either corner of the disk).  That could lead to short life of the data stored on the disks. Longevity and reliability would be improved if these were real DD disks.  Still available from here:

Ug!  I looked in all over for A4000T original disks a few years ago to no avail.  I finally sold it off (don't judge) last year but was only able to give the boxed standard 3.1 disk set and the A4000T on "backup".

It's nice to know there are people with the ability to help the community doing just that!  Keep it up!

Just for the record: these Disks are also available from Vesalia.de or amistore.eu. Amigakit is not the exclusive reseller of this Cloanto product.

@zylesea

So it looks like our project idea with Cloanto will benefit other resellers too?

Nope, Missed it. They shipped it out on Monday morning just before I read this post.
Oh well....

Yeah, they are usually quick on getting orders processed and shipped out the door, but it was worth checking on, just in case they had some kind of delay.

Enjoy your new bits of Amiga and the new 3.1 floppy disks.  I will be ordering my own set soon.  :)
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

Many thanks :)

I remember a scare several months ago when some people were claiming that floppy disk production was going to stop and that they would be harder and more expensive to obtain in the near future.  I guess that hasn't happened yet.

It is a shame that some perfectly working products stop being produced after newer alternatives take over as better products.  This seems to happen with computer gear at a much faster rate than other areas.  The rate of change in the computer industry is not always a good thing, and I remember the argument that Amiga users were lucky because they did not have to replace their computer every 2 or 3 years, like PC users and even Mac users did.  The flip side of that is that Amiga users lost our parent company, partly because they did not continue to improve and innovate the Amiga at an acceptable rate, and it was discounted by most other outside users as just a game machine.

Back on topic, I am glad we can still get new floppy disks, even the DSDD ones seem to be available for now.

if only you could boot/install right off the CD drive. Then the discs would be less of a concern.

3.9 can almost install off CD, all it needs is a single "Emergency" boot floppy to get it started.  Still better than six.  So close, so close!  ;)  Might have to try making a bootable USB, have heard there's others who have done it.  One of these days when I have the time!  ;)

If you have a Gotek USB floppy and have backed up your 3.1 floppies to adfs you don't need floppy disks anymore. http://cortexamigafloppydrive.wordpress.com/
But then again there's something about that floppy drive noise that is therapeutic...
