If you use your Amiga as a dumb gaming console

Why dumb? not much success with that word.

Let me put it for you in another way:

If you use your amiga exclusively for games, and dont give a damn about what kickstart or OS does it run, as long as you insert a floppy, turn the power on and then play, and that is about all you do with it. Then, if that is the case, this type of kickstart rom update is useless.

An Amiga is much more than a gaming console, dont you think so?

All the Kickstart are still under Copyright : These articles ONLY describe the installation of a socket !

I don't think you can copyright chips, only software.  (o:

What I want to know is why someone would go through all the trouble to install such a socket? Removing a mobo from the case, de-soldering the old socket, installing a new socket where two pins need to go to Gary anyway... unless you wanted to show off some damn fine soldering techniques! lol

ughh "pretty fine soldering techniques"??? this is as basic an installation you can get for us Amigans or any one who owns a basic soldering iron really

I was just trying to give some props after being befuddled why he'd go through all the trouble! lol

Besides, a 'basic' soldering iron with de-soldering braid and/or a discrete solder sucker typically isn't going to do as clean a job removing an I.C. He's got a nice setup and technique, better than a lot that attempt such work I'd say.

I think this is a phenomenon that you will witness frequently only in Amiga.org. Almost Every time someone posts a good tutorial, there will always be the guy (usually more than one) that will try to ruin the thread and discourage the original poster.
Why is this and why only here? It's is beyond me.

Well, there are two positions I have observed here at the great A.org and they are 1) ideas are scrutinized on merit of technical soundness and cost worthiness, and 2) if an idea has something to do with copyrighted infringement it is going to meet swift opposition from the "Pirate Police".

Addendum:  I do not support copywriter infringements, but there are times I cannot find what I need through legit channels, either licensed reseller or intellectual property owner themselves (i.e. Amiga. Inc) that aggravate the tar out of me.

Hello.
Although i have not clearly understood where this new ROM come from and who is going to make it available, i wonder why bother with A500/A2000 before A1200/A4000? From what i have read here, booting from USB would be great.

EDIT: ok! i have just understood that ROM supports from A500 Plus to A4000 are already suitable for 42 pins EPROMS. I see the point now :-)
