Why, because pirates like colours?

Pay attention to what the poster writes and what is written on the site, dont let all the coloured stickers distract you.

More like possible custom Kickstart chips with library upgrades etc (like mine which I did last year)

Pirate? Hell no, I got my original chips safely stored away :)

And should the day come that I get rid of my A1200, the updated ROM's will be removed and destroyed then the original 3.1's will be put back.

ARRRGGGHHHHH! A pirate's life for me!

AMIGA.COM is always down so who should we write? Santa-Claus, HYPERION, COMMODORE USA or other :)

COSMOS is not a pirate, perhaps a space pirate like Harlock!

What I want to know is why someone would go through all the trouble to install such a socket? Removing a mobo from the case, de-soldering the old socket, installing a new socket where two pins need to go to Gary anyway... unless you wanted to show off some damn fine soldering techniques! lol

I would have just put the new socket into the old piggyback style! And yes, the contact between the two would be just fine.

-edit-

Oh, I see other links showing alternative methods now. Still, instead of soldering directly to the Kickstart chip, best to just double up the sockets to be on the safe side, unless some other hardware in your machine would prohibit that somehow.

@Cosmos
Hyperion is not the one you should contact. They only have 3.1 rights to use and distribute, but no ownership.

If you plan on using 3.1 stuff modified + some of 3.9, you will have to contact both the defunct Amiga Inc, and Haage & Partner.

Good Luck!

If you use your Amiga as a dumb gaming console, nothing.
If you want to push it to the extreme, you can have support for harddisk bigger than 4GB from rom. You can have a 3.9 kickstart without the need for the double reboot. You could get an overall faster and bugfixed system than 3.1. You could replace your con-handler with KingCon, so that every cli you use since boot can have all kinds of nice features such as name guessing, history, etc. If you have USB, you can boot from usb devices.
And many others that I miss.

So at the end it depends on what you expect your Amiga to do for you.

Sorry, but my *i got asskicked by ainc-lawyers*  kick3.9 from 2006 includes newer modules than this one ...
And it worked in a standard 512kb rom - full operational - ;)

Prepare yourself, i think "they" will contact you, too.
