Sorely needed FAQs
« on: January 31, 2006, 07:25:53 AM »
There are at least two FAQs I think we sorely need. "How do I transfer software from my PC to my Amiga" and "How can I connect a VGA monitor to my Amiga". I would be willing to write these if they could be included in the a.org FAQs. Then on the regular occasions when these questions are asked we can refer people to the FAQ instead of having to explain it again

That's bizarre you should mention that, I was thinking about this only yesterday : about a year ago, I started writing an FAQ for Amiga.org, but then I had a lot going on in my life at that time, I moved to France for a while and basically completely drifted away from the internet.

I drew up a long lost of questions that I saw asked all the time, but barely started writing them. Off the top of my head, some questions were:
How do I add a hard disk to my Amiga?
How do I add a CD-ROM to my Amiga?
Which is the best filesystem?
What are the different revisions of the A1200 motherboard?
How do I network my Amiga?
How do I add more RAM to my Amiga?
I want to get back into the Amiga again, which Amiga should I get?

And the list goes on...

A lot of these have less than simple answers, such as 'Which is the best filesystem?' so I was going to through questions like that open to the audience here and collate the answers...

I should get of my arse and get on with that again, I'll try and have a look and find the work I did on it before...

I like Amigas

Rather than a faqs I think it would be better to have an Amiga tutorials section where it explains how to do things with the Amiga with diagrams n things.

People could post there on tutorials using there different setups.

It could even have tutorials for how people have customised there workbench

Good idea.

Dont forget the other common question:

"How do I use a larger than 4GB hard disk"

Cough cough, less chat more typing! ;-) I ran a F.A.Q on my site and it worked pretty well. Plus you have the bonus of being able to have a request topic in the forums so people could request certin F.A.Q's that have'nt been covered. Since there's two of you's that have had this idea you's both should be able to cover all subject matter in days :-P but great idea!
