Getting a CDRW working on A1200T
« on: March 07, 2004, 07:46:30 PM »
Hi everyone,

Earlier today I bought an Asus CRW-5232AS CDRW for use with my A1200T.
I set the drive up as a master on the second IDE port of my PowerFlyer
ZIV (Ihave have two HDs on the first channel). The drive was
recognised by FastATA prefs and FindDevice. I reinstalled the FastATA
software to make sure that the correct CD driver was installed. When I
rebooted and put a CD into the CDRW no icon was shown on Workbench,
although the drive whirred and the read light flashed for a few
seconds. I even tried the drive as a slave on the primary IDE port and
reinstalled the CD driver, but the result was the same. MakeCD and
FryingPan both recognise the drive but cannot detect any media in the
drive. If I remove the CDRW and replace it with a DVD-Rom (using the
same drivers on either IDE channel) then all is well, CDs are read
flawlessly and DVDs can be played in AMP2. I am stumped as to what is
wrong. Can anyone offer any assistance?

Thanks,
Dave
