Why? The whole thing has been a disaster in the making and some of the main people involved are just short of criminal. I hope it reaps the reward it deserves.

I haven't followed this much at all and don't know any details of this.

But... If I owned a company and I invested a lot of time and released a product to the market trying to fill a need in a very small market segment, I would need to recoup some of the money invested in the product.  The price is the price.  If you charge to little for a niche product like this, there can be no support and the company will fold.

Again, I have no stake in the AOS 4 world, and have zero plans to enter it, but from what little I have seen...  A man took a risk, invested time, talent, and cash and created something to offer a market.  Not an easy thing for any of us to do...  So I salute him and wish him well...

@matt3k

I wish everyone else felt like you. Unfortunately there are people who just want to see AmigaOS 4 fail, for one reason or another.

It seems to me that nobody wants to see AOS4 fail more than the people responsible for it.

Zing!

I don't want to see OS4 fail (really I'm just indifferent to it,) I just find it hilarious that a company is asking $2700+ for hardware that would underperform a $300-500 used Mac even if all its hardware were supported by the OS it's intended to run.

The X1000 is a rich man's toy.  The main CPU is upgradable though so they can update the design in the future without having to design a complete new PCB.  Then again, they did the same thing with the original AmigaOne series and it didn't work out well then either.  This one is a "limited edition" model.

I suspect Bill McEwen wants Amiga to fail due to under-the-table payoffs from Microsoft but I think Aeon got caught by the economy as much as anyone else did though and deserves the benefit of the doubt.

The CPU's upgradable? To what? I thought PA Semi was getting out of the PPC business (and fsck you for that, Apple.) Is anybody still doing development on the desktop/workstation side of the POWER architecture?

I think you should explain that remark or retract it. He may have been coy about the expected cost originally but I don't see what Trevor has done that could be construed as "just short of criminal". There was never any suggestion (correct me if I am wrong) that it was going to be cheap.

I said some of the people, not Trevor specifically, although he should be taken to task for all this Xorro and Xena nonsense. We still see people with stars in their eyes dreaming about using that stupid microcontroller to do all kinds of impossible things like emulate OES, AGA and entire platforms, and Trev has done nothing to give potential customers any kind clue as to what of reasonable things can be done with that xs1l2. Ben Hermans on the other hand, I don't think I need to explain.

Well, Trevor is the person that springs most immediately to mind when you say "main people at A-Eon". Perhaps it's just me that thinks that.

I don't understand why people here are getting critical of its price. If you don't want to spend that much money on a computer then don't. I'm sure the people who do will thoroughly enjoy their new computer.

Also i don't see how Aeon is being criminal. No one is forcing you to buy one. If you don't want one don't buy one.

My comment has nothing to do with the price (who cares?), it's about misrepresentation of the product and the character of some of the people involved in this production.

It was always represented as an expensive new computer to run
Amiga software, funded by a guy who figured out there ain't no U-Haul
parking spots at the pearly gates. Call the cops if someone committed crime.
Maybe a few banks will get knocked over as customer fund raiser projects, but that's
a road Mac users have worn deep ruts in long ago

Do you have any idea how difficult it is to develop a custom piece of hardware like the x1000 and actually succeed? Why don't you start your own company and see if you can do any better.

I don't think for a second Trevor Dick would be dishonest - he seems like a great bloke. Maybe you could be more specific about those misrepresentations and questions about someones character? I'm really interested.

I'm interested, what kind of language I can use here?

It sounds fun, but I want to do it better, so can I call them wankers? Also one important questin is who or whom I can call crimials and wankers, is it some how limited to OS4 devs and other people involved?

Sorry if I'm asking stupid questions, put I just want to be part of the game.
