Aros and Nvidia Graphics Cards
« on: August 24, 2015, 05:30:09 PM »
Hello everyone.
I am interested in getting some cards for Aros and Linux.
Could anyone tell me how well the following cards work with Aros?
I am interested GTX 460, GTX 465, GTX 470 and GTX 480.
Nvidia drivers seem to start at the GTX 4XX cards when I want to use Ubuntu 14.04 and Fedora 22.
Thanks.

I know Mesa 11 is being worked on and the Intel driver is already working.  So I would say wait and see what comes of the updated Nvidia driver.
Support AROS sponsor a developer.

Thanks I will go with the 6600GT that I have until I can get me a better card.
It offers better compatibility than the 740G chip-set.
It shows that Gallium is used.
Any way to find out if AMD X850 and X1300 are supported?

I'm using Nvidia Titan. and i have no problems.
Dualbooting ubuntu (14.4 X64) works like a charm.
How it would work for Aros though. i have no idea.

Edit: Driver package from Nvidia

Thanks for the info.
I noticed that high-end cards are getting affordable.

Have you already gotten Aros to work on your system aside from the graphics card?

Although all my PCs had compatible intel graphics, none of them worked 100% with Aros. Some had no wifi, others, the usb didn't work etc. I ended up installing the AEROS hybrid distro in order to get it to work properly.

Might be useful for you if your setup is not compatible, it is a bit slower booting and in general use though.

I have a machine that has Athlon XP,AGP and a 6600GT agp. It works fine. I re-installed ID 2.0.3. It seems to run fine and would like to run the new OWB.
I know I will have to get a sound card from my other machine for this one, an Athlon64 X2.
This machine has not been tested yet, even though I think I tried it a while back.

The 6600GT works fine for both Linux and Aros. I did not test sound and Ethernet.
I am still wanting a better card.
Thanks to all.
