Weird sound problems...
« on: November 08, 2002, 10:18:50 AM »
I just decided to install an SB 128 into the Mediator (since I managed to fix the A1240 a while back).

The MMCD had a rather new version of AHI on it, so this was installed also. I didn't have any speakers with headphones connector, so I haven't had a chance to test anything. But I started up my newly purchased copy of Payback for some cop-killing while waiting for someone. And I immediately noticed the sound suddenly seemed _terrible_. I'm getting aliasing in bucket loads. It sounds more like C64 than an Amiga. And Payback doesn't use AHI.

I do note that the AHI I had before (from OS3.9 CD) was set up for 57kHz, while the new one doesn't go above 48kHz. I was thinking maybe Payback tests the screenmode and adjusts internal sampling rate accordingly, but this doesn't work because AHI has set up some timer totally weird. But I'm at a loss how to fix things. I realize now that I've been missing out on a bucket load of updates to the MMCD because I forgot to register. I'll do that on monday (CD is at home and network is at work...), but it would be nice to know if someone has ever seen a problem like this.

Removing the sb128 files from devs:AHI and devs:AudioModes didn't make any difference, AHI still insists on using SB128 modes. This has me SEVERLY annoyed, because it means this thing is impossible to ever get rid of.

I haven't found out how AHI is started either. There's nothing in startup-sequence or user-startup that mentions anything to do with AHI, but it's still started up no matter what I do. (I couldn't find any addaudiomodes). I want my Payback like it was before yesterday, grod darnit...

Sorry, can't help you.
(Obviously, you've tried it without the SB 128 again?)

Yep. With or without the SB128 doesn't make any difference now.

I think there's a file in your C drawer that is used by that program.

Can't remember the name of it.

set your preferences there.

Was that an answer or what?

heh
