Ok games gurus, I can remember a game I played a couple of times on a friend's Amiga in about '92, but can't remember the title or publisher! This is what I remember about it:
A generic vertical scolling shoot 'em up, worked on KS 1.3 in 1Mb off one disk, in two player one person got to drive a jeep on the ground and the other got a helicopter. IIRC it started out going through military complexes in a desert.
Any ideas? (bonus points for anyone who can name the Sequel to Switchblade on the Amstrad, that featured a wizard as the main character :-)).

Gotta be SWIV.

Aaargh! yes :-) and it seems so obvious now ...
Thanks!

Hoya!
Pfff! Obvious! :roll: :rtfm: :-P
As for the Switchblade sequel... If I remember correctly, there HAS been a Switchblade 2 and, on Amiga, it was more or less the same character.

switchblade II did not have a wizard in it. It had the same guy. I had the gx4000(cartridge which worked on amstrads failed console and the amstrad cpc + range version, the sound on that game was top for the time. I liked the game but it was just damm hard.

Ahh... Nostalgia! Apart from my Amiga, the CPC was the best computer I have ever owned (not thaat I owned that many...).
Was there significant differences between CPCs and CPC plus?
I know it was mainly a matter of GFX capabilities.

The graphics were better, but next to nothing actually used them (best was a basic blitter, IIRC 'Burnout' used the extras in the title sequence on the GX4000 cartridge, the rest of the game was LeMans 24 Hours direct from the old CPC). I think there were some games that made proper use of it released in France, or so I read in Amstrad Action's dying days!
My other half still has her 464 & colour monitor, in the past I've owned a 464, 6128 and 6128 Plus, I still have some 3" disks kicking around.
The Switchblade sequel I was talking of wasn't SwitchbladeII, which was never released on the CPC. It used the same clever engine (11 colours on screen in high res, the emulators still can't pull it off!), and instead of throwing knives etc you got fireballs and stuff ...

Ohh! I remember that game! Wasn't it called Stryker in thr Crypts of
Trogan??
It ran on normal CPC's and the Plus machines.
It autodetected the Plus extra hardware and the graphics looked
stunning on it. It was also the first tape cassette game to use the
Plus machine extra hardware (Amstrad had said this could only be done
using catridge software)

The word 'Crypt' rings a bell, and the demo looked great on my old greenscreen! (only ever had the demo) I'll look for that on the web later :-)

@Holley
Actually I think the game your looking for sounds to me more like SilkWorm and not SWIV (SilkWorm 4) but then again you said it was a vertical shooter. Silkworm part1 is a horizontal left to right shooter but better than SWIV I think...yu controlled a Helicopter and a Jeep...........this was an arcade game at one time. it was great. Made by TECMO I think...there is no such thing as Silkworm 2, or 3.for some reason they just jumped to IV, maybe to make it look like this game is so good that we are up to part 4! yeah right!
-
Nope, it was definately SWIV :-) I remembered it as soon as I read it! I'll have a look at Silkworm though, as with many old games I remember SWIV as being better than it really was :-(
-
I loved Silkworm and still play it... One of the few old games that I still play.
( What the hell is Swiv?)

SWIV = Special Weapons Interdiction Vehicle

Or S ilk W orm I V (ie. Silkworm4 with roman numerals).

Hoya!
SWIV is nice, although harder than Silkworm.
Its graphics are better, too, but for some reason, I prefer Silkworm. Reckon it is the fact I played it with a mate of mine for HOURS!
For the record, Silkworm is part of those special fews which were computer games adapted to arcade!
The other ones are Choplifter and Tetris... And Lemmings IIRC... ;-)
