Payback on AGA
« on: November 30, 2008, 10:44:15 PM »
I recently tried the PayBack demo on my 1200 (AGA, Blizz 030 Mk4, 32mb) and I had some performance issues.  How do you guys run it, what screen modes do you use and what kind of speed to you get?  Is it ok to run it from WB or will I get more speed if I boot to DOS instead?

I tried the demo on an A4000, 40Mhz 040 Warpengine and Cybervision 3D and found it sluggish on anything but low res.
Amiga 4000, Warp Engine 040/40MHz, CV643D with scan doubler module, Tocatta soundcard, Deneb, 72Meg fast ram, 18 gig scsi hard drive.

I've only played it on 060 and up with 3D card, and it shines on 060 up with Voodoo 3. I think you really need a faster system, otherwise WinUAE on a monster PC will also do the job.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

I found that Payback on AGA was only ever really playable with an 060 and about 32MB ram (aslong as you remeber to turn off all eyecandy and other apps in workbench to fre up as much chipram as possible.)

But if you ever get a graphics card then it does get alot smoother (but PPC & Graphics card are better again!)
Escom A1200, Power Tower, OS3.9 & BB2, HD-Floppy drive, Mediator PCI, Voodoo 3 3000 16MB, Soundblaster 4.1, TV Tuner Card, 10/100MBit Ethernet card, Apollo 68060 66MHz with 64MB, 9.5Gig HD and 52xCDRom

Also one spare unworking bare A1200
