Compuquick

They have a website that belongs in 1998.  Are they ok?  Has anyone had any recent experience with them?

My last dealing with them was in the fall of 2006.

Drove up to Columbus and bought an item or two from them.

Not sure about recently though.

- People who hate Windows use Linux but people who love UNIX use BSD.
- Never forget the AMIGA. No computer in history ever made such a big step forward.

Their website has a shopping cart function, it let me put in a Cyberstorm PPC accelerator and Cybervision PPC graphics card.  I didn't do the checkout because it was $1100, but it never said they were out of stock either.  Has anyone recently dared to pull the trigger and see if they have these items?

I'm almost tempted to do so!  I know it's ludicrously expensive for what it is/does, but dang!  I used to have this setup and have always pined for it ever since.  I have a 3000 to provide life support for it too. :-)

Maybe I'll call them Monday and see if they have such items..

Hate to shoot down anyone's hopes, but I wouldn't count on CompuQuick for Amiga hardware... it may be listed on thier site, but it's doubtful that they actually have it. I inquired about something listed some time ago, the response was basically that they 'couldn't possibly keep the website listing accurate' or something to that effect... So, either they are lazy, can't set up an inventory system that actually reflects what's in stock, or they don't actually have anything .
Sorry, I am bit bitter, have run into too many companies with 'phantom inventories'

Isn't there some kind of law in some places where you can't go around advertising that you have something when you don't?

weirdami: yeah, I believe there is such a law in certain areas, but it doesn't seem to change things one bit in the US at least. It's called 'bait and switch' and is rampant here. Unless acompany takes your money without delivering the goods and/or service(s), there is no recourse. At any rate, the company discussed has done this (the bait and switch bit) for years...

I am not sure everyone knows the complete story about Compuquick.

The owners are Indian and run the store from the back of their Indian grocery store.

When you first walk in you pass through several aisles of Indian cuisine food and towards the back is all the Amiga stuff.

So, it ain't exactly a normal retail presence by any means.

They are nice folks, but the Amiga is more of a dedicated hobby for them than a full time business.

It has probably been about 9-10 years since I bought from Compuquick. Back then it was a pleasant experience, good people. Email and ask before buying anything. If you can reach someone still, I'd trust a trust them to be honest.

Don't go by the website.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

  Thanks for the visual.  When I was a "kid" I worked in a computer store assembling and repairing 486s.  The place was run by this very cool young chinese couple.  They hung what looked like sleigh bells on the door so it would make noise when someone showed up.  One day I was in the front of the store when a couple walked in.  The woman said, "Jesus, it sounds like a chinese grocery store...  Oh."  I laughed for about 20 minutes.

Maybe I'll give them (the indians) a call today.  Maybe they can send me some curry with a buddha board.

I just sent them an email asking about a few items.

Lets see if they respond...
