aorg stats again
« on: August 16, 2003, 04:16:32 PM »
since we have got a new webmaster, here´s one (old) question :
@kees : how about activating the stats page again. some months ago, there was a stats site availible, where you could see parts of the ip address, the used browser, etc. from the users logged on.
would be nice to see this again, ´cause i love stats :-D

perhaps you could start a poll about this.

@all the others : what about it ?

@shiva

"where you could see parts of the ip address, the used browser, etc."

The IP address of the user? no thanx absolutely unuseful if not dangerous :-)

I agree for the web browser used, personal picture or so.

Speaking for the staff of Amiga.org, since the new administrators probably don't know why this functionality was removed, the statistics module was removed because it presented a great deal of danger to the integrity of the site and added a great deal of load to the server, since every mouse click and visitor was tracked.

It was not uncommon to have several hundred thousands of database entries added per week, meaning about once a week, Amiga.org's database size would double and the site would get incrementally slower.

You can see some very abbreviated statistics at http://amiga.org/stats.php.

@framiga :
the last number of the ip address was *. i agree, that this is nowadays a really dangerous thing. interesting would be sth. about the used browsers. the information about the ip is not that important.
@wayne : why not put these informations to /tmp, while a cronscript does an rm to the file once every hour. so you only would display the last logged in browserinfos, and the database size would stay small.

So I guess that A500, 600, 1000, 2000, CDTV, CD32, are pure garbage then? Thanks for posting here.
