Image Ratings
« on: December 17, 2007, 01:00:24 PM »
Because of the vastly different interpretations as to what criteria an image rating is based upon, perhaps ratings should only be able to be submitted by those who have posted comments.  That way we can cut out all of the anonymity of those submitting poor ratings for fun.

So many images receive ratings of just '1' and I'd like to know 'why'.  No great shakes in the grand scheme of things - but there you go.
A1200, M-Tec 1230 @28MHz, FPU, MMU, 8Mb fast ram, SCSI card, 512Mb HD, Power CDROM drive, PS2 optical mouse

Possible reason:
Maybe some folks believe that '1' is higher than '10' (like in radio hit lists). Just like that weird american school grading system where an A is best, and F is the lowest.

Reality:
It's you-know-who. :)

1) Can't be done without programming changes and we're not doing any more programming changes to AO at this time.

2) There is no accounting for stupidity.  I doubt people are being dumb, but they are probably just being vindictive.  There are -- as you might have noticed -- quite a few occasions where we are visited by the "less than mature" crowd in the Amiga community.

While I find this to be true, I also find it amazing since most of the people who really grew up with the Amiga are now in their late 30's / early 40's.

Except the rating page states "The scale is 1 - 10, with 1 being poor and 10 being excellent". IMO ratings should only be allowed from registered users, and yes requiring a comment would encourage people to explain their reasons for their rating, but I think we would end up with a lot of blank or meaningless comments from people who just want to rate the picture but don't have anything constructive to say.

Sorry for screwing up the formula, but I just post comments (occasionally) and don't rate the images...

I find the ratings pretty pointless, why not remove them but allow people to post comments if they think something is really cool like a super modded A1200 or something, or if something sucks like a butchered poorly looked after A1000.
