Title: Purchasing Amiga hardware/software from online dealers
Post by: Jburg96 on March 11, 2005, 04:49:59 AM
Hello,
I have found a scan-doubler (toastscan) for my amiga 500 through an online dealer, SOFTHUT.COM. Has anybody purchased from this online dealer in the past? What was your experience? I would appreciate any info......

Are You Kidding?

Yes, They are one in the same (the name is at the top)

And they are the Best!   I have always had excellent experience with them.  But I doub t because you see a Toastscan on their website, that it means they have it in stock...........I would make sure first.

I talked with Joe @ Software Hut about his scandoubler in January.  They no longer have any.  I found one on EBay but you've got to be persistent about checking...

I tried ordering my AmigaONE from them after Mr. Hardware's phone was disconnected and they never answered the phone after about 6 calls. No callback after I left a message either so Compuquick got the order. They picked up after the second ring.

Software hut is a good company but their web site is often out of date.
I highly doubt they have any toastscans cause when I inquired awhile a go they said they didn't have any left and didn't have plans to get any more.

If you need one search on ebay and remember you only need a toast scan if you plan to use genlock features there are other external flicker fixer/scan doublers.

I am hunting for a Sync Strainer since I finally got my hands a on a decent multisync monitor. Bigger screen toaster hurray!

I would have rather had a toastscan but hey are just too hard to find.

Just ordered some chip for one of my Amigas last week, they arrived early this week.
Correct parts, timely shipping , decent price (imho)

I also ordered my 1084S-D1 from them years ago, same result then and the monitor is still goin strong

I have not the knowledge of their inventory control

Mr. Hardware Computers is still there. I spoke with Mr. Norrby  today, Mar. 25. The phone company "lost" their voice line number. They are using their fax number (631-849-3682) as a temporary voice line until the problem is fixed.

SoftHuts site is good and I'd love to get an AMOS Pro manual off them someday... but I usually purchase my stuff off of Amiga Deals. Their old website was  http://www.amiga-deals.co.uk  but that seemed to close when they change it to:

http://www.amiga-deals.com

Now I know their stuff is expensive (as is some of the stuff at SoftHut), but they have been around for years and test all the software/hardware listed. Their lists are usualy fairly up to date and I have purchased several games, software, a 2MB PCMCIA card , 1MB (internal) memory board and a 4GB (PC?) harddrive which works beautifully in my Amiga 600.

I highly rate them.

********* POSSIBLE SCAMMER ALERT *******

Isn't amigadeals the place that was discovered to be a scam over on aw.net a while back?  I've tried goodling but can't find anything.  I'm sure it was them though, although it has been known for me to be wrong in the past. :-)

Can anyone verify this?

No AmigaDeals is a perfectly legitimate business - you are thinking of amigashop - which has since disappeared

Oh good.

My sincere apologies to amigadeals for any upset caused.

-edit

I can personally recommend amigakit.com, i've bought from them in the past and they have provided excellent service.  I'll be buying again very soon, if they have the item i'm looking for in stock too.

I've dealt with Software Hut (aka softhut.com) for about 15 years! They have always been great to deal with. They take care of problems quickly, and treat repeat customers quite well indeed.
They even host a sumer BBQ for people who can get to the greater Philly area.
It's a family run business, that obviously cares about the Amiga people in this world.
