Put a FPGA into a full size power supply case and it would be even better.

I was asking the guys behind the a1200 case remake project if they are going to do usb keyboard and they said watch this space as the keys there making for that project wont just work with the classic ribben cable but will have many options. Like many i’m a bit sceptical of this project it easy to make a concept and idea, harder to build prototype, get the copyrights, mass produce and deliver.

Well Philippe Lang got green light from Amiga Inc to use the logo on the new A1200 cases, so might be the same route for these keyboards i guess.
Funny. He probably could have asked his Gradma for tihs as well. Amiga Inc sold already "every Amiga copyright in the universe" to Cloanto.

Hmm. Maybe I should ask Amiga whether they sell me all their stuff again... (-; They seem to have a track record for causing problems for their "clients".
So, this sounds at least pretty fishy to me.

Just for practical matters: Manufacturing a keyboard with a custom key layout is probably going to cost a bit. It is not that you can print this with your average 3D printer. It needs a custom membrane, just to name one issue.

Oh well, I^m not going to hold my breath for this to appear.

Not that it matters, but for purposes of a timeline, the licensing to Philippe Lang was about 3 years ago:
This occurred shortly after USPTO reminded Amiga Inc.:

The Amiga Inc. trademark was officially cancelled November 29, 2017.

Just another “Two Guys & A Baby” Kickstarter “Money For Nuthin & You’re Chicks For Free” bunch of BS. Pure Effing Phantasy! The whole “freezer to dinner table” of this is mind boggling! Not to mention, asking for the Amiga community’s input will kill it before you can even say “Copyright”! :roflmao:

These guys have already made one similar product that is for sale, the Emubee, look at emubee.com.
So for the emulation frontend and casing design I think they are up to it. They plan do show a demo of this at retrospillmessen 12-13 may, so they must  have something more than just an idea already. Its the licences that may be troublesome to get together in a package like this.

As most people on the forum I find the keyboard most interesting. But I think this product may be interesting for people outside the amiga community. The same kind of people that wants the Nintendo classic, they dont want to be troubled with setting up emulators, downloading roms and figure out how to configure the keyboard or track down usable usb joypads etc. They want something that just plugs into the TV and comes with everything needed to get it to work.

Speaking of the Nintendo mini thingy, I see them for really cheap prices at various local stores, and still they don't sell. I think the enthusiasm for them is hyped, and the retro-fad is soon over.

we have momentarily removed content presenting the hardware side of the project. As we do not hold any licenses to use the Amiga name or mark we do not wish to create any confusion or use it in what may be seen as marketing of an actual product. We will be working hard to get the licenses we need in order to realize the full potential of the project

etc.

I'm guessing no Rom licenses either...

Um...no, just no.

"NewAmiga"? Just the term makes me want to slit my wrists these days.

Calling it an "Amiga"? I get stress headaches almost immediately, with the immediate thought that, "Someone feels impelled to drag that corpse around again".
Without consideration of the legal issues, the limited market, without...a real point to it all.

I'd contract these guys if I wanted a Galaga cabinet recreated. An Amiga? Not so much.

Tbh I have stopped to try to keep track of who owns what long ago :P

But about the keyboard, the case would cost quite a bit for the injection molds yes.
But as for the rest of the keyboard they could just go with mechanical switches, then a PCB for it would be drawn quite quickly and design wise it would save a lot of headache. Then keycaps would be no issue either.

I do not think the keyboard will see the light of day tho, but who knows.

I guess I'm to late to this one, there's no picture of the hardware on the site anymore so it's hard to say if it's anything interesting or not.
