Normally you're on the ball #6, but in this case not so much. One of the reasons kas1e decided to stop OS4 development was because Hyperion doesn't post that kind of information, and ssolie even confirmed that they do not plan to. I expect what will be in the official support blog is a vague " bug fixes and/or improvements" with no specific or useful technical information.

Also, yes, it's A-eon on the hardware side, but it's up to Hyperion to make OS4 take full advantage of the hardware on the X1000, which it currently does not (to put it mildly). Thankfully Varisys ported Linux so the boards aren't completely useless.

Nevertheless, I see where ssolie could answer Piru's questions, which are questions a potential customer might ask. I also see those as quite different than what Roman's issues are, which would apply to specific changes that only a developer could relate to for his own benefit.

I for one would be quite interested to hear what exactly can be expected from the system while waiting for the mysterious 4.2 release.

We know answer is NO to all. All or most of these are for OS 4.2

I've seen once Silver Master because we knew the product was just good enough kinda broken in some way but marketing wanted us to release it.
I suppose that there's no change log made public because there's no new feature just bug fixes for the X1000. 4.2 will be another story but I guess we are far away from it.

In the past didn't it refer to a program being put on a "master" CD with gold colored substrate, ready for mass duplication?

Anyway it's a misuse of the term.

Not that this has ever stopped them.

Asked myself the same when Amiga Classic gone gold news appeared,
but yes, today "going gold" is actually being ready for end customers.

Don`t mix it with "Platinum editions" "Extended editions" etc. of games or music

Thanks for the update from A-EON.  I also received this message through email.

This should be good news for anyone who purchased the AmigaONE X1000 "First Contact" system.

I do not understand the negativity regarding Trevor's comment.

Please take it in context, we all know that Trevor has been a user and supporter for many years.

"I have just received my own AmigaONE X1000 system and I hope "First Contact" owners will have as much fun as I'm having with my new "Amiga"..."

Everywhere that it counts, he has used the term AmigaONE X1000 system and it is only in his personal comment where he has used the term "Amiga" to describe his own personal system, which he just received.  I do not think this is an infingement.

Many other people, including me, have said that they are having fun with their new "Amiga".

On the otherhand, perhaps he should be more careful because he is a representative of the company.

We don't want anyone to be enthusiastic. ;)

Well, I simply spotted that one of the stake-holders of th X1000 was marketing his product by calling it "Amiga", which they specifically don't have a license to do. And the thing is, there are other entities who paid good money *to have* that right, and who also have the right to *take legal actions* against such infringements. They can call it "AmigaOne" or "Amiga One" in their marketing, but they can't market it as "Amiga". Potentially, mistakes/violitions like that could jeopardize the whole Amiga Inc <-> Hyperion settlement, depending on the mood of the other relevant IP holders...

;)

Reality thing: THis is new Amiga (I can say AMIGA, yes?) and CUSA/iCoin just ain`t and will never be because of the software / hardware / development choices - those other "Amigas" (should be typed Amigas) are repacked rebadged not new products in any aspect.

Legal thing: Those fake things are to be called Amigas and real Amigas AmigaOnes (or PPC Macs)? :-)  Who doesn`t get it, deserves to pay for false Amiga and thing he is getting the right one :hammer:

Yes, *you* can call it "Amiga", and *I* can call it "Amiga" (I could even call my MacMini/MorphOS system an "Amiga", although I don't, since it was a long time the trade mark lost its meaning to me), because nobody would bother taking action against us, even if they could (which they can't), but nobody associated to Hyperion/A-eon can do this, especially not in a marketing context (which Press Releases definitely are) since they are corporate entities making commercial business based on a license agreement that carefully outlines what they can and can't do regarding the said trade mark. And like it or not, they can't call it "Amiga". Others could (having paid good money for that right), but *they* can't. Money is involved, and multiple parties that doesn't really like each other very much, and like it or not - *there are* legitimate reasons to cancel agreements such as the one between the Amiga IP owner and Hyperion Entertainment.

What ever became of the title: Work Bench?

Again with the "GONE GOLD", as if OS4 has sold over 500,000 copies.

Sorry, you are thinking of an unrelated definition. This isn't the music industry.

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle

Sounds like somebody is deliberately confusing it with the term "gone live" which actually is used in the world of professional software development

That somebody would be Apple:

As a Trade Mark in this context? I'm kind of certain that someone has it registered. Hmm, who was it? Was it Cloanto?

This is Amiga.org. It thrives on negativity towards anything at all to do with OS4, simple as that.

No doubt he should be more careful with things like this as has been pointed out, since it represents his business in a professional capacity. But in the grand scheme of things it's really only important to the people here who simply want to rip apart and ridicule everything they see regarding OS4 and AmigaOne for sport.

OMG who cares about the term, we all know what they are talking about, please, I was under the impression, that, most, if not all, a.org users where adults.

This is great news, and seriously, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything.

Ahh a blue butterfly means MorphOS right... last time I looked the domain name was Amiga.org... oh well guess grandma has nothing better to do than moan and bicker... must be jealousy creeping in...

AmigaOne = Amiga
Amiga = AmigaOne

The two are interchangeable... besides it was a personal quote so he can say whatever he wants.
