The street fighter 2 style games, but with comic book characters, like Spiderman and Wolverine etc. Marvel Super Heroes, Marvel vs Capcom, X-Men vs Street Fighter..and Street Fighter Alpha wasnt bad. MSH is my all time favourite though.

Does anyone remember Hyper Sports?  I vividly recall the sound of buttons being slapped furiously by people playing that one.  I remember playing it on a mate's C64, and seeing joysticks getting broken regularly!

Well, I'll concentrate on listing those "unmentioned" ones...

-Metal Slug series (SNK)
The gameplay is nice, graphics (especially animation) is unbelieveably good and the end of level bosses... They're simply so much over the top :-)

-Garou - Mark of the Wolves (SNK)
The best fighter game ever (What can you expect from SNK anyway?)
My personal record is 506500 points (Completed with one credit)

-Magical Drop 3
A game bit like Puzzle Bobble with 2 players, of course...

-Thunderblade
Still the ONLY arcade game, I've ever completed (NOT under emulation)

-Gyruss
Always liked that game on C64. And then when I finally found the arcade version, it was out-of-order! :-)

-Nemesis/Gradius series
Those games much defined how side scrolling shooters would be for the next decade...

-Up'n'Down
Played it a lot on C64 ages ago, later found out it was originally arcade game. Liked the red car on C64 more, though...

Hoya!

@Drwho

Hehe... I said ARCADE games (the ones you had to pay for), NOT Amiga games. It is another topic! ;-D

I forgot Operation Wolf. Brilliant game indeed.
As for HyperSports, well, it was quite a fun game but way too difficult!
I played the arcade a couple of times but I had it on CPC and I went past the second event only a couple of times...
Too bad.

I forgot P.O.W. by SNK! Boy, I liked this one very much! It has a nice atmosphere but was worth playing with a mate for it was not that easy.

Two MASSIVE classics now:

Bubble Bobble
The New Zealand Story

I wonder if someone on this planet did NOT like them?
As funny and as addictive as Lemmings!

90's games are ok as long as they are bitmap.
I dig the SNK classics. All had a distinctive style of their own, although some of the Art of Fighting seriess WERE damn hard!

I forgot another classic too...

P47 Thunderbolt by Jaleco (or Namco? I do not remember!) Yeah! Groovy babe!

As you can imagine, I am a BIG MAME fan but...

Many games are unplayable on my 060@50+AGA. Would having a Mediator and a GFX card improve my situation drastically?

Also, there are some sountracks I LOVE and I would love to have on MP3...
So, it is possible, through MAME, to make some kind of memory dump to rip them, then convert them to MP3s???
(Think of Street Fighter, especially Geki and Lee themes! ;-) )

Be funky

Yep, I liked Operation Wolf a lot...  Hyper Sports I was shockingly awful at too.  I couldn't get very far, despite smacking the hell out of the machine.

Yep,

Bubble Bobble was great and was dead easy to convert to any format as it wasn't exactly the most hardware demaning game in the world.  Proof that good gameplay doesn't necessarily need eye candy.

New Zealand Story drove me nuts....  The irritating soundtrack was too much, as was my inability to get further than level 2!

Yep...  Haven't tried Amiga MAME though, so can't comment on how it runs on an Amiga, but a Mediator & Voodoo would give a huge increase in speed to your system.

Magical Sound Shower and Splash Wave...  For those who haven't guessed already they're tunes from Outrun.

Does anyone know where I can get them from?

I lived too far away from the arcades so I didn't really play that much. When I did though my favourites were:

* Bubble Bobble
* 1942
* Out Run

(and in the 90s Sega Rally and Virtua Fighter ruled my world.)

Hoya!

@PMC

Muhahaha! I went further than the second level in NZS! ;-P

As for the Mediator+gfx card, I plan to bring my Ammy in England, tower her up and buy a Mediator, as well as a Voodoo, a Spider and other bits...

As for the OutRun soundtrack... I got them! ;-)
On my Ammy.
In France... :-P

But you can get them from stuff like Kazaa I guess.
Back then, someone got them for me from Napster I think.
Because, actually, there HAS been a CD released in Japan, featuring the OutRun tracks! Obviously, I would love to get it but it is NOt the kind of things you get at Virgin Megastore... (sacasm).

Now, no one has answered my questions.
Is MAME almost usable with a GFX card AND is it possible to dump its memory content to rip the tunes inside?

Maybe should I ask Exotica... ;-)

Also, the C64 version of Outrun came with cassette with original arcade soundtrack on it!

You can find some mp3's of outrun musics at www.outrun.org

Yeah bet I could whup your ass on Turrican II though! LOL :-)

Go for the Mediator & add ons, you won't regret it.  Not sure how your Amiga will travel, don't you guys have a different system to PAL or NTSC over there?  Then you've got to get a 220v PSU...  But don't let that put you off.

Have found them on the Outrun.org site! Many thanks Jupp3 for that!

I now want to go home early from work, burn a CD of Magical Sound Shower and Splash Wave and play them whilst driving my (bright red) Alfa Romeo flat out with some token blonde in the passenger seat!

Happy days :-D
