Buddha problems
« on: November 05, 2002, 09:20:20 AM »
Hi everyone, I have a problem. The thing is that when I hooked up my Quantum 40GB IDE on my FlashBuddha it doesn´t show up on the WB. HDtoolbox finds it as 2nd.scsi.device and I can install and make a partition on it. It feels like I have forgotten something.
System: A3KT, OS3.9.
Mainframe: Amiga 3000 Tower, CSPPC233/060, 144+2MB, 36GB UW, Prometheus, Voodoo5 5500, 10Mbit, 24xCDr, OS 4.0 ....Amiga since 1987.

Usualy you don't have to care about it because it is on by default, but check if you have enabled "Automount this partition" on the "Change..." page.  Screenshot

Also, if this is not the first HD on the Buddha, click on the other HDs in the list and if HDToolBox says that some HDs have been added or removed, click on Save. Do this for every HD in the list.

Bye,
Thomas

Checked, but it didn´t help. Isn´t it something in the startup-sequence I have to add so it can find the flashbuddha or is it built in already? I know this controller work ´cause I have used it before.
The HD appears both in the pre-boot screen and in HD-toolbox without any special tooltypes so it has to work, but Workbench doesn´t show it so I can´t format the HD.

You probably did not set the file system type correctly. Both the file that is added to the Add/Update dialogue and the partition must have the same type. Also the file system type is unique in the system so you must not mix it up with those used on other hard drives. The same is true for partition names (e.g. DH0). You must not use the same name for different partitions, even on different drives on different controllers. You also must not use the name of a volume or drive (e.g. Work or DF0) for the partition.

Another reason could be that there is some garbage on the disk. Just start the Format program directly (from Workbench:System) and choose your partition from the list.

Bye,
Thomas

Nothing happens, I´ve tried all that. It doesn´t appear in the format program either. The format command from shell doesn´t find it either.

Oh man, how lame can I be?  :-P
It was the ROM on the Buddha that was too old. I flashed it to a newer one and it found the HD at once.
Well thanks anyway.
