Looking for Amiga FTP client
« on: October 22, 2002, 10:56:51 PM »
Hey,

I'm on the hunt for an Amiga FTP client that DOESN'T SUCK!!!  AmFTp, mFTP, SimpleFTP are all garbage!  Is there anything out there that won't randomly crash, hang up and actually work like it's supposed to?  It would be nice if it could access Aminet via the ADT interface but right now I'd settle for a normal FTP client that just works.  Any suggestions??!?

While I don't like Mftp either, i don't have any problems with AmFTP.  I do, however have an older version not the newest one.

DOpus Magellan II has a built-in FTP client that's supposed to be pretty good.

AmiTradeCenter is pretty good and has excellent ADT support. It even has built-in Tetris for those long downloads :)

I have both and they seem to be rather flaky.  It's possible that the older versions were more stable.  I have the latest installed and it's unstable.

I just installed FTPMount.  It's not really what I was looking for but so far seems stable and I don't mind using the shell.

I'll check out some of the other suggestions and see how it goes.  Thanks guys.

Okay, I installed AmiTradeCenter (the latest beta).  It seems pretty good so far.  Thanks for the suggestion.

AmiTradeCenter won't run alongside the latest version of YAM. They
each require different versions of one of the MUI libs, so I
personally use AmFTP from Aminet.

AmFTP runs perfectly on my setup, which can't be said for any
edition of the mFTP's sponsored by Vaporware. I can't get anywhere
with mFTP!

Uhm, you can use both the shell and the workbench in ftpmount, but it pays off big time to turn file-type recognition off (Deficons) when using the workbench ;-)

I have the latest version of both of them(including YAM 2.4Dev) and it works perfectly on my system!

Maybe some crazy patch is messing up with your sys.

I love AmiTradeCenter and I would like to see it further developed...

see ya!

Well, people seem to like AmFTP.  What version is everyone running?  And is this a registered version or the freely distributable one, or are they one and the same?  Can't remember...

As for AmiTradeCenter and YAM, if you're referring to the NListTree.mcc thingy well, the latest beta of ATC seems to work fine with NListTree v18 so that should be fine.  I didn't have to change any other MUI libs to get ATC to run.  Having said that, I never tried running the two together but that shouldn't be an issue with me as I don't really use YAM anymore.

Yea, it was the v17 -cum- v18 NListTree.mcc thingy I had problems
with, but clearly that's been sorted with the latest issues.

Thanx for the info, I'll now try to get ATC and YAM working together.

The Aminet download of AmFTP has a free 30 day (60 days in practice)
trial before you're expected to register. Can't say fairer than that ,
can yer.

Cheers,
